I have a 2017 540C which has just been serviced at McLaren and they have highlighted both door hinges are cracked. It would appear the passenger one has previously been replaced and now both need doing. The car has a full Mclaren service history, but no McLaren warranty and I have heard of some getting a goodwill gesture from McLaren towards having the hinges changed to the stronger version as fitted to the GT.

Has anyone had any luck getting such a contribution from McLaren and if so did you go through your dealer or direct to McLaren customer services?

Picture of the car having just had a full respray at McLaren bodyshop to rectify the common corrosion issue.

My understanding is a great big "no" from them.
Similarly you'll get the same past 5yrs on bodywork. I believe there's a new hinge design in the wings however.

is it in the wings or in the chassis behind them?

My understanding and experience is that good will comes from Mclaren when the car has warranty and the warranty company have said no but the car has FMSH and current warranty.....think you will struggle without warranty.

Also, I've heard of lots of hinges with crack but never heard of the actual doors failing, makes me wonder if it's even an actual problem.....

My one was replaced under good will. Any part replaced previously on the vehicle is also covered for 2 years but that depends when your last hinge was changed.

I think it's worth asking but as Sarnie says with the car not being covered by any warranty ( and 7 year old) it might prove unsuccessful, but they can only say no can’t they .. it’s a inherent design fault that affects all the sports series cars, it should of been re-engineered out by now but sadly it hasn’t ,,

Mine were replaced FOC at 4 years old, but had/has extended warranty.

Who footed the bill for your recent complete respray?

In my experience it all depends on your relationship with the dealer, they may well push it through if you have a good one.
