720s high miles

Looking at getting a McLaren and this 720s is cheapest and all quite a bit of carbon too. It is high miles but I’m not going to be doing many miles and so only need it for a few thousand miles a year. I think it’s one of the earlier one and you hear that the earlier ones had a lot of quality control issues - so wondering if I should avoid these earlier ones as it may be ruinous or go for it.
Also, not sure about the dealer and how easy would it be to add the McLaren warranty from MD?

- buy the car
- own it for 90 days
- send it to a McLaren dealer for inspection (maybe £400, about an hour)
- pay for any required servicing or repairs needed to any warrantiable areas
- buy warranty (c.£5000 for 12 months)
- (I believe) continue to service the car at a franchised McLaren dealer
Phoenix RC list the car on their own website https://www.phoenixrc-autos.co.uk/used-mclaren-720... this also includes the registration RX67 EUR, which lets you do a google image search for where the car may have been, as well as checking MoT history.
Like any car, cheap for a reason !
However, likely some of the well known issues have been resolved
Mileage isn’t really a problem in McLarens in fact it’s probably a good thing.
Forget about the dealer thing, do your research and pre purchase get a full inspection. Should highlight any potential problems.
If you then want a warranty there are a few indies who can provide them a long with a McLaren dealer who would also want another inspection
Spec is decent and nice colour

Depending on where you are defo worth having the car inspected by V Engineering or Thorney…heard nothing but good things about V and they can sort issues alot more cost effectively than main dealers. A lot of people with cars over 5 yrs old have indies like Thorney and V look after them think Thorney has his own warranty also. Nice looking car but hard to know if a big bill is lurking without a thorough inspection.

WOW that IS a lot of car for the money and a mega spec! I don't see a problem with it as long as it's checked out by someone like V or Thorney. Lot's of buyers of supercars look for the lowest mileage they can, which is not a good thing for a Mac, but that does help drive the price down for cars like this. An inspection at V or Thorney will like find a few issues regardless of how many miles done and may actually allow you to get get the car for an even lower price.
I'd echo the recommendation for a PPI, some cars out there are good and others have £££££ in deferred maintenance outstanding, this car has clearly been driven enthusiastically (see above) but recommended on any Mac of this age and mileage.
Personally the Mac dealer inspection I had seemed less insightful than what V Engineering told me when they serviced it, so I'd prefer the latter.
I'd agree 35k miles probably isn't an issue mechanically, I'd want to inspect the car closely to check its cosmetic state, depending on how it's been used and cared for it may be a little tatty or still in A1 condition visually. PPI should cover the mechanicals.

I saw this car myself when it was up for sale this time last year at Jardine Select Bracknell for £130k

I asked why it wasn't being sold by McLaren Ascot (part of the same group) and it was because of a missed service in it's history but there could have been more under the skin that I wasn't told. Looked to be in great condition otherwise but it's obviously had another owner since that's trying to move it on. Perhaps you can chat to the guys at Jardine to find out more about the car's history

The car went through BCA last July, guide was just over 100k, I missed the auction so did not see what it actually sold for though I doubt the dealer is making much on after fees even if guide was about right, then it appeared at My Next Car near Sandy but did not seem to sell, it’s certainly a nice looking car and I was going to bid on it at the auction having previously bought a lovely 570 Spider from BCA. Unfortunately I did not get to see the car so can’t tell you more about it but don’t worry about the mileage as my 720 has done over 40k and runs absolutely perfectly, I’m looked after by Renn Works in Stevenage who I recommend highly.

Great looking car I have been watching it too.
But for an extra 10k you 60% less miles and wear and tear all round.
I would pay £100k when in comparison to others for sale + inspection at SBR Engineering or other non famous speciailsts which there are numerous.

My 570s was a Mclaren press car, theres videos of pretty much every well respected journo "test" driving it, never bothered me one bit and have no idea why it should bother anyone else. Id much prefer a car thats been used throughout its rev range than a garage queen thats given an occasional squirt and conditioned to "x" number of revs (also bad for engines), all these modern super cars can handle it and beyond.

Possibly, it would depend on whether the car has been abused. They are, as you will know, designed to be used on a track. All depends on the SH and condition. I’ve not seen this car so I don’t know it’s condition. Perhaps you have?

I agree with press cars being a good bet, I suspect they will be built to a higher standard and fastidiously maintained lest journalists generate more fuel for the 'McLarens are unreliable' social media flames.Id much prefer a car thats been used throughout its rev range than a garage queen thats given an occasional squirt and conditioned to "x" number of revs (also bad for engines), all these modern super cars can handle it and beyond.
