Hi All,

Early days of looking for a 570s Spider currently - coming from a 997 GT3

Any thoughts on this car ? Price and spec. I have read about white being unpopular but this looks quite good to me.

https://www.kingsbridgeautos.co.uk/used-mclaren-57...

Am I right in thinking that I could take this into a McLaren dealer, have an inspection and buy an extended warranty ?

Thanks !

Yes! After you have owned the car 90 days if warranty has expired, which tbf isn’t much use

It's not white...........it's a lot more baby blue in the flesh.

Spec looks good - lift, extended paddles, decent wheels, audio, interior trim. Plus quite a bit of external carbon fibre, which isn't that common.

Price looks competitive. Price history on AT
01/12/2023 £91,965
09/11/2023 £94,965
25/10/2023 £91,965
19/10/2023 £93,965
10/10/2023 £95,965
03/10/2023 £98,985

As it's been up for a while and at this price for 2 months now, there is likely some room for negotiation.

Muriwai doesn't do it for me, but it is rare and probably worth more than standard fridge white.

Personally if I were buying I wouldn't worry about a McWarranty, but I would get V Engineering to inspect it before purchase. But yes standard terms are 90 days ownership before you can put a warranty on.

Dealer reviews seem positive.

I don't see any mention of PPF, so after 23k miles I'd want to check the paint and bodywork condition on the frontend carefully (it may be fine though).

Seems like a car worth checking out, and potentially buying if it's good cosmetically, PPI comes back good, and if you like the colour in the metal.

Pictures won't do the colour justice; it's really quite nice in the flesh, acquaintance of mine has a spider in this colour.
Needs strong sunlight like most of the McLaren pearls to really come to life, aside from that the spec looks ok too.

Have driven this car, baby blue in the flesh, quite stunning looking and good spec. No warranty Currently and they offer their own.

This car was commented on recently on one of the McLaren FB groups, and the dealer posted various details about what a great car it was.

And, it may well be - but in that post they stated that it comes with '3 month warranty'.

Never dealt with them - they may be great - but personally, I have zero time for dealers who believe they can offer a warranty that's less than the 6 month period CRA gives you, where it's assumed any fault was there at purchase unless they can prove otherwise.

Might prove difficult to get the car PPI checked at V as it’s up in York ! Leeds McLaren the closest .

Forgot to post an update as a slight warning about buying used 570s without warranty, the Muriwai blue car needed about £8k of work doing to it on inspection at a McLaren specialist.

Did you look at buying this? I spotted it and it ticked most of the boxes but was a bit too early time wise for me. Which specialist did it go to? I know that V and Thorney are the preferred option but they are too far away from where the car was in York.

I test drove it, they wouldn't budge on price at the time and wanted 97k. It had no warranty other than their own aftermarket 3rd party warranty which I didn't trust.
I ended up with a newer car for similar money privately with transferable mclaren warranty and had just been serviced.
I also know the chap that bought the murawi car then took it to a mclaren specialist who identified 8 grands worth of work, the car was rejected on the basis the warranty or dealer wouldn't cover the work. A bullet dodged. It was a beautiful car in the flesh tbh.

Ok thanks. Yes, a lucky escape. I would only buy one with a McLaren warranty, at least for the first year, then get it inspected at a specialist and hopefully have anything that it flags up sorted out under the warranty.

Do just be aware of the things the warranty doesn't cover, like paint corrosion or consumables like ceramic brake discs, could be £20k between those two if you're really unlucky.

Absolutely correct, you need to be aware of these potential pitfalls on top of the £4k pa service plus warranty needed.

Yes, I've read all about the paint bubbling so would be on the lookout for that. Does the typical service at McLaren normally tell you how worn the ceramics are or do you have to get them specially weighed? I'm just wondering whether there would be mention of the % wear in any service documentation?

Is that the extent of service costs at a dealer these days, £4k p.a? Always thought it would come in at less than that, maybe £1,500 per service plus any add ons?

I had the car I was looking at PPI'd at a McLaren dealer, I just got a typical main dealer 'car condition' type report where the brakes were either Red, Amber or Green; but they can be Green even when they're say 50% worn, because they're not in imminent need of replacement. So it's not very useful for judging the remaining life.

The factory service manual has a good guide to assessing disc life (p25 on)
https://www.mclarenlife.com/attachments/mclaren-mp...

I found having an independent specialist look at my car they could give a more useful indication of how far my discs were through their life. So I guess either read the manual and try and judge yourself (easier after you've inspected a number of cars with different disc conditions), or get the car to a specialist for a PPI.

I'm reading that as warranty plus servicing add up to £4k a year total, which sounds about right to me. Most of that's the warranty ofc.

No I was quoting £4k pa for a McLaren service plus their warranty. They've dropped the warranty price to match Thorney I guess at £2.7k pa on a 570s. Service was a grand at Leeds.
Discs aren't a major worry until big mileage, they dont wear much, just watch for chips/cracks as damage writes off the disc.

Thanks for the clarification. Annual costs are pretty much where I expected them to be. Most 570s that I’ve seen have had around 16 - 20k miles so I would hope there’s a lot of life left in the discs, unless the car has been heavily tracked.

I probably wouldn’t bother with a warranty after the first year if the niggles have been ironed out, and would then leave it to V or Thorney for the maintenance.

If I was closer to an indy I'd be doing just that myself.

The only thing that gives me pause for thought is the paint corrosion. I assumed one a panel was repaired/resprayed the corrosion would not come back. I have subsequently been told by a number of owners it does indeed come back. Depending on how many panels are impacted that could be ££££.
