Thorney car has had loads of work and will be mechanically up together, warranty too, so the better of the two by a mile but what's the mileage?
Great colour and a really nice spec.
I'd always buy from main dealer or specialist in preference to a ordinary dealer.

this has sat for a year, bewilderingly. not sure whats up but there must be something

made a speculative call to them (ended up buying a 570s). the guys were adamant they didnt want to lower (Even though i was paying full cash and at the time was ready to buy a mclaren at a dime). Ironically I saw them put the car down to 83-84kish, now they hiking it up again. 650s are just sitting right now so great for you as a buyer

Do you mean the thorney car or the blue one has sat a year?
Not sure what mileage the green car is on. Lot of car for the money these 650!

Blue and red is an unusual and brave spec but I like it

Lot of car for the money but be interested to know how repair cost fairs on mclarens as they get older as parts aren't cheap.
Potential for some hefty bills

Yes it's a concern of course, I imagine if you get a well looked after car without high miles and with warranty would be reasonable as a proposition. Not sure how the market will treat these cars given they've already shed probably £100-150k?

Really not that bad. For example, a lot of 675 owners have ditched the warranty and are now self insuring and using V Engineering, who are the number 1 independent.

They repair rather than replace, and almost all of the common issues now have an easy and cheap fix rather than replace.

The blue car has been advertised for a year.

The autotrader link contains the date the ad was created. In this case the link id is 202209019350435 , the first eight digits are 2022-09-01 or 1st Sept last year.

The green car is listed on Thorney's own site https://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/car/mclaren-65... with 35,240 miles. John does sometimes seem to struggle to use the Autotrader website successfully ;-)

Yeah, they are epic value for something so special.

Do you prefer a coupe or spider? Just as the 650S spider is relatively even better value, since they don't command the same premium over coupes as seen on other McLaren models, and the carbon tub means they lose nothing to drive.

I could be completely wrong but I reckon the Mantis car at Thorney was one of the McLaren press cars. It was for sale for a very long time at GVE which wasn’t overly surprising as they (GVE) appeared to have done no prep on it. One of the photos showed the windscreen seal peeling off and there were others, of which I forget the detail, which made me not want to enquire about it.

If Thorney have sorted it and coupes are your thing (they are for me) then you’ll likely not find a higher spec’d car in a great colour.

Would explain the high spec and carbon overload

As a 650 owner what are people's thoughts on value and where they are headed? What is the dealer spread on the cars as I will be looking to offload at some point, just no idea what for as they are epic value

I feel like the 650S has come down slightly since this time last year, with multiple cars offered at £80k or so, I feel like the floor was more like £85k this time last year? But could be wrong.

I think at approaching a decade old they have to be reaching their floor values-wise, dunno how much lower they've got to go but surely it can't be that much further. I reckon they'll keep going down over the next three to five years but only pretty slowly, settling into a floor. This would be 'normal' for an all-out drivers' car IMO, 10-15 years depreciation, 10-15 years flat, then 10-15 years of rising values.

The 650S is perhaps a bit overlooked, it got less press coverage as it was seen as a 12C facelift, but the all-new branding separated it from that car's reputation. I don't see a big upside or downside on them, values should be relatively stable for the foreseeable future.

Of course all that is subject to the unpredictable economic shocks in the wider world that seem to have come ever more frequently lately, I can't forecast those.

I hope that more quality McLaren independents like V Engineering spring up around the country, I think that would help all these out-of-production models' values as with good backup, there's really no reason not to have one at their current prices biggrin

All cars are simply heading back to early 2021 pricing, just older with more miles.

The £81k car at GVE was my old car - I sold it in May 2021.

I bought it from McL Glasgow approved used on 18k miles for £88k a couple months prior

Interesting as there wasn't much movement on price really.
I don't mind the coupe or spyder tbh, probably coupe to avoid roof leak issues

Both my 650S spiders had roof leaks. Pretty minor. And it’s garaged and mostly used in the sunshine so not an issue

Unbelievable VFM. Go green spec is off the chart. I'd put a cheeky bid in at similar level to Blue one if its been up for sale for a while. 650s coupe quite a rare beast. In that spec even more rare hence wouldn't put me off being press car with a Thorney warranty it will have been very well looked after by Mcl. The colour really suits the car yes

Sounds like a relatively minor issue but one which multiple owners have reported, eg

The roof is still leaking - not by much, a few drips - but it's very annoying. I can see where it's dripping from - what I can't figure out is how the water is getting to that point because everything above it seems bone dry. Here's a picture - this is the passenger side of where the front and rear roof panels join. You can see water is collecting on the flat bit of the seal at the bottom - but I haven't figured out yet how. I'd like to - because I don't want the car back at McLaren before December, and I don't want the car leaking until then - it lives outside after all!

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?host...

Not all cars may have the issue, and if the car's kept garaged and only driven in dry weather then one might not even find out.

I understand the door/screen/roof arrangement was re-thought on the Sports Series cars to resolve the issue.
