Extended Warranty
Discussion
I'll say it before anyone else does; Thorney do their own warranty.

Never used them personally, but they are one of the two names that always come up as the place to get your McLaren serviced (the other being V-engineering), and their warranty is very well respected from what I gather. They are upfront about what is covered, and don't tend to wiggle out of claims (or so I hear).
Just to add to the above; V Engineering don't run a warranty scheme. Their argument is that they can fix the worst likely issue (gearbox rebuild) for £6k or so, so paying perhaps £5k/year for a warranty is an unnecessary expense.
I've been to V a couple of times - alignment and annual service - and I've been very impressed with their deep knowledge, open communication, habit of picking up and fixing minor issues at the same time for free, and generally very reasonable charges. They're also good at repairing things to avoid paying four or five figure sums for replacement parts. Genuinely better and cheaper.
I'd recommend calling them and trying to get a chat with Paul about likely costs of maintaining a 720S with them.
Incidentally, if I were to buy another McLaren in future I'd also look to ask V to do a PPI.

I self warrantied with my 570s so fully understand the discussion for self warranty and possible savings, but its never quite as simple as, V can do a gerabox rebuild for £6k and thats as likely as bas as it gets, what about if you have a few repairs over a year, it soon mounts up, so weigh your options up carefully op as its not always limited to one thing that can go wrong.I've been to V a couple of times - alignment and annual service - and I've been very impressed with their deep knowledge, open communication, habit of picking up and fixing minor issues at the same time for free, and generally very reasonable charges. I agree, you could absolutely be unlucky and be hit with a number of significant warrantiable repairs in a given 12 month period, and regret not having taken out the warranty.
Also if you're going to go to a McLaren dealer for servicing, the costs will mount up quicker than if you go to an independent.
A common compromise is to look to buy a car from a franchised McLaren dealer, when it'll come with 12 months warranty. You can then make sure to drive the car plenty in the first 12 months to shake down any issues.
As you approach the 12 month mark you can then make a decision based on how you feel about the maintenance costs and how the car's fitting into your life. You could then either sell up (the potentially extended warranty/service history making it easier to sell), keep it and extend the McLaren warranty, or drop the warranty and leave the franchised network for cheaper (better?) servicing.
I note that OP was originally asking about other third-party warranties on a McLaren. I have to say that everything I've heard (online and off) about such warranty companies would lead me to steer clear - it's just too easy for them to deny a proportion of claims and rely on most people not having the resources to fight their case. First party warranties such as McLaren or Thorney have a much higher rate of satisfied customers I believe.

I think Thorney has a £10k claim limit, but I may be wrong so something to check.
I also understand that John Thorne has said he's never hit this limit, i.e. he's been able to repair all warrantied issues which have arisen within the £10k limit. (Don't know if that's still the case now).supersport said:
Aren’t all the McLaren indies down south though. Not much use for northerners.
The cost of having a car shipped soon adds up.
Not aware of a decent Mac indie in that region but considering Thorney have expanded abroad, I'd be amazed if they're not looking up north too.The cost of having a car shipped soon adds up.
Thanks everyone for their feedback I do live up North inbetween the Glasgow and Leeds McLaren dealerships as someone previously commented " nothing in the North East " the thornley motorsport does seem good value with the pre inspection included and a 10k limit and was quoted just under £2900 but obviously it's not easy carting your vehicle to Northamptonshire every time you have an issue + the extra cost in fuel or unwanted extra mileage added to your precious McLaren. Looks like Im going with the warranty wise policy standard 5k per claim but you can pay an extra premium for 7.5k or 10k per claim limit and still significantly cheaper than Mac warranty.

Yes, although for a major problem they're also significantly less likely to pay out. Each to their own, but I would take self warranty (and do) vs anything other than McLaren warranty.davek_964 said:
