720 ride vs MC20
Discussion
Anyone have a 720 and been in the MC20 to compare the ride quality?
I have a 720 and thinking of the Cielo but dont want to lose the ride quality too much, I will of course go and test myself but its quite a jaunt for me, so any insight before i embark on this would be much appreciated.
I have an Aventador and AMG GTR and i’m happy to put up with their ride quality only because I have the 720s sublime ride to counter balance, so dont want to change the 720 and go backward in this regard..

Funny enough i was looking at these in the classifieds this week, they are certainly tanking in price is all i know, but as Mcalren owners i guess we are used to it
Wow a few coupes in the mid £160’s now that’s quite a hit, I could certainly see myself in one of these in the future got a lot of McLaren traits (depreciation accepted !) with the scissor doors and carbon monocoque …and of course a fantastic looking thing.

Its actually the Cielo i’m interested in, I know it’ll be a worse than the 720 but where its comfort sits i dont know, if its not that much better than the other cars mentioned then i’ll get a spider 720 for the time being, its use is for the further reach Rallys and getting to them, so comfort essential as transporting cars is a pain..
Other idea is a DBS Volante, nothing like the same steer or comparison, some would say, but in terms of its directive of a comfortable open top with plenty of shove for Rallyes, maybe? (Tested Bentley & chose an S class cabrio over that) but had a 2018 Vanquish S cabrio and wasnt that enamoured with it tbh.

Was taking a good look at one at a show yesterday, very pretty thing and some lovely details and i know its a newer car, but i would still take a 720s at similar money.Edited by RSbandit on Saturday 12th August 23:13

I owned a 720S, and drove the MC20 about 2 years ago...
The MC20 isn't a patch on the 720S in any aspect whatsoever. It does ride well, but again not as well as a 720S.
It's a much heavier and slower car too, and feels a lot cheaper than 720S.
675lt spider or 765lt spider are my other options, the latter ive been in but unsure of ride comfort for long distance work, 675lt ive not been in but reviews seem to rate the ride as harsh..
I think it comes back to the 720 spider tbh unless testing the Cielo leaves me gobsmacked, which i doubt.
The DB12 Volante i’m very drawn to though, will hold off until ive seen one, i’m happy to sacrifice the driver trade off for those looks and comfort levels, looks like i’m moving the S63 cabrio on to a new owner so a db12v could be a good combo, i have other driver focussed cars anyway..

If you primary priority is ride comfort, the 720S is better than any LT. The 765 and 675 are reasonably compliant in terms of ride, and more than a 600, thanks to their super series suspension. But 720S (and 12C/650S) beats them all for comfort. I think it comes back to the 720 spider tbh unless testing the Cielo leaves me gobsmacked, which i doubt.

But you don't buy an LT if your primary objective is comfort. You buy an LT for the driver engagement.
However a McLaren GT rides slightly softer than even a 720S.

I went from a 720s to a 720s spider, its a big upgrade having the sound! and you lose nothing in practicality, i'd view an MC20 as a down grade, smaller car slower and although Mclaren depreciation can be high, - Maserati 'hold my beer'
Useful comment. That’s what I felt after looking at both today.Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
