570 spider journey begins
Discussion
Today I was lucky enough to pick up a Curacao spider
Took about a month to sort the deal out with various issues to clear, cars to sell etc.
Was a Porsche fan boy but got fed up of the politics and being treated poorly on the whole by the dealer network so decided to look at alternatives.
McLaren have an image, unfair iMO, of being very unreliable. So I looked into the details of possible issues with the 570 and decided to go approve used. More expensive than a specialist sale but hopefully worth it for peace of mind.
981 spyder sold and carrera T gone to make way for the 570. Will try and keep a diary here of the car.

Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of doing exactly the same, we've had 14 Porsches including Boxsters, numerous 911s, GT3s, Cayennes, and Macans, but that's not good enough to get me an allocation for any decent model of new car, although it does entitle me to the usual condascending comments and poor, overpriced service from the OPC.
I've been thinking about a 570S Spider too, I just love the look of them, but like you I've been put off by the reports of problems and poor dealer service (thanks JayEmm). And I'm told that they don't have much of an exhaust note (alrhough I have no experience of that). But they seem so much more car for the money than anything else, and it's an itch I've always wanted to scratch.
My ideal spec would be a McLaren Orange car with black roof and wheels, and black alcantara interior. It will be fun looking, but as my first McC car I definitely want to buy through the authorised dealer network.
I have a couple of questions already.... 1) what's the interior space and legroom like, do you think it would be OK for someone 6'6" tall? and 2) What's the visibility like for manoevering around, parking in spaces, etc? How does it compare to your 911 for that?
Looking forward to your updates!

Yea, be careful of the UTube mob as much of the content is click bate or sponsored. Interior space is fine for me, 5ft 10. You should be okay, but best to try one for size.
Visibility is better than a 911 imo.
Really enjoyed yesterday and hope for a long happy journey with McLaren.

I'm 6' 5" and no problems in my 600LT (same chassis etc as 570S). Even enough headroom with helmet on. Mine has the P1 bucket seats though which do place you very low down in the car. The electric seats place you a bit higher. I think you'll need to go through the ordeal of going to one of the dealers to try them out I've been thinking about a 570S Spider too, I just love the look of them, but like you I've been put off by the reports of problems and poor dealer service (thanks JayEmm). Visibility is excellent - better than most forwards due to the low scuttle, not too bad reversing although the reversing camera is pretty useless as it's placed incredibly low in the diffuser.

So off to S London Porsche today for 75th celebrations
Did enjoy speaking to the dealer who said I was not worthy of an RS and showing him the 570
OK, that's sealed it... all the new 911s in those snaps just make the 570 look in a completely different league, they are dull by comparison. Thanks for all the replies on headroom and visibility, I'm off to McLaren Manchester the next time I've a few hour spare. My thoughts on the car so far:
Beautiful to look at, especially in Curacao.
Get lots of attention, loads of nice comments, even in London, which I was surprised at.
Acceleration is phenomenal, but did notice in manual mode, you need to keep the revs 4K and above for the real power. Below that it feels weak in manual mode.
The sports exhaust is very good and sounds like a race car. I’m still tempted to get an inconel rear section for added sound.
Handling is very good even in normal mode. Not tried race settings yet as will leave that for track.
Fuel gauge seems a bit hit n miss.

Good choice and a lovely car! I went from 981 GTS to 570 Spyder.

That's the exact step I'd be looking to take within the next 12 months. Interested in your thoughts of moving from one to the other Make sure you join the owners club. Good advice, lots of meets and even some discounts. https://www.mclarenowners.org.uk/
Porsche is over rated and over hyped! Sold my GT3 and Spyder, now have a 600 LT Spider and it is so superior to the Porsches its bonkers how good it is and though I've had a couple of minor niggles Mclaren service has been superb and the car otherwise superb.
Mclaren are under rated and under priced, making some of the models at present absolute bargains though values on some models have certainly improved over last few months.

Agreed. Porsche are marketing genius. Mclaren are under rated and under priced, making some of the models at present absolute bargains though values on some models have certainly improved over last few months.
I still have a 718 4 manual. That and the 570 spider are a nice mix.
I do sense the tide is changing for McLaren. Quite a few have jumped from pork..
