Hey everyone, following on from previous post, I'm looking to get into a 570s this year to experience Mclaren ownership. As before, having had several Aston Martins I'm used to electrical gremlins and small things going going wrong. Mileage wise I'll only do 2k to 3k miles a year.

I'm leaning towards a spider (thanks for the feedback!), but still open on that. I wouldn't want a car with more than circa 15,000miles.

Is there anything I should look out for that would ring alarm bells?

is there any desirable options I should look out for?

Any further feedback on 570s appreciated!

Lift is probably the most desired option, the rest is going to be down to audio and carbon options, colour.

I would recommend a track pack as they have the amazing P1 seats which are just so comfotable and add an extra dimension to the interior feel.

Also be very vigilant on corrosion, sports series suffer most being aluminium, all coverd under the 5 year body warranty however, but worth noting.

Condition

Door hinges cracking (pic here)

Check for cracks in the windscreen glass

Ceramic brake condition - see here someone kindly posted the McLaren guide to judging how much life is left in them (£15-20k to replace so worth checking pre-purchase, easy visual check).

Suspension arm bushes can fail, springs can break and dampers can leak. Wiper motors are also a surprisingly common/expensive failure.

Check the radio works.

Check the exterior condition carefully and don't be afraid to pass on cars that are imperfect/tatty (lots of pampered examples out there)

Paint bubbling is a common issue, but 2019/20 cars are still under their 5 year factory paint warranty so less of a concern when buying.

Spec

Nose lift is considered a must (v common)
Extended shift paddles (comes with the interior carbon) desirable (common)

Beyond that it's mostly preference

Hifi I think is 8 or 12 speaker, the latter has an add-on speaker in the centre of the dash above the two central air vents. Given the road noise I wouldn't personally consider the top hifi to be a must-have.

There's a wide range of wheels, the basic wheel is a ten spoke 'flower' shape which is cast and thus heavier. Most Spiders are on forged wheels, so then it's more a matter of style preference. Forged are double seven spoke, double five spoke (star), ten spoke straight and ten spoke 'bent' which are the lightest.

Exhausts are standard, sports, or MSO Titanium I think in increasing order of volume.

I think all Spiders have the electric heated seats.

McLaren do a huge range of paint colours from the spectacular to the monochrome. Some cars have the glasshouse in black, others body colour.
The interiors also come light or dark, with or without contrasting stitching and belts, and in leather or alcantara.

Have you driven a 570s yet? You've been swayed over to McLaren having driven a 600LT.......I think you will find a 570s very sterile after a 600......

I had a 570s for four years, loved it.

But it's very different, make sure you get enough seat time in a 570s before you buy one......

Another small thought, I wouldn't be too dogmatic about <15k miles, if you found a somewhat higher mileage car in very good condition that would I think be at least as good a bet. While McLarens do have some issues they don't seem to be caused by high mileage, if anything disuse may be worse for them. There are cars out there on 50k miles or more, so they won't fall apart by being used.

+1, even a 570S to 570GT is a noticeably different balance of refinement/engagement, do make sure you get a decent go in a 570S before committing.

Samoht has covered it pretty comprehensively. I’d also be keen for front end PPF at least as depending on how you use the car, can be prone to stone chips and given McLaren don’t release their paint codes, can be a pain to touch in.

I’m also about to trade in my Vega Blue 570S Spider for a 720S if you want to pick up a steal - bring serviced this week and McLaren warranty until 31 March 2024.

Hi all. This is our 570s. We’ve only had it for 3 weeks now. We bought it from McLaren Birmingham with 8500 miles on. Didn’t even have a test drive due to bad weather and having watched many you tube videos I gathered enough information. I thought I wanted an orange one until I saw this. It has carbon interior, sports, exhaust, nose, lift, orange and black Alcantara and the light weight wheels. Having come from a 981GT4 this is definitely less involving to drive (no manual gearbox) but an awful lot faster and people seem to love the car and brand a lot more. Servicing and warranty costs are an eye opener but hopefully it will all be worth it.

I came from a manual 718GT4 to a 600LT and can't say I find the McLaren less involving to drive, it feels more alive than the GT4 and as you say, an awful lot faster. Also better ride quality.

I don't think servicing will be more expensive, my GT4 had a 'minor' service not long before I sold it and that was >£900.

Yeah I mean less to do really because I don’t need to change gear. Porsche are 2 year servicing McLaren every year.
