I looked at this unit a few months ago but just dismissed it. I have since found a thread where guys have already bought and fitted them. A good read and when it comes to fitting, not for the faint of heart it would seem. www.mclarenlife.com/threads/iris-replacement.10760...

Has anybody on here been brave enough?

Always fancied an upgrade to the 570s infotainment to include downloadable apps when i had mine, but personally that looks truly hideous and no way i would have installed that in mine.

The black surround or the whole thing?
I think one of the buyers had the surround hydro dipped in CF pattern.

I don't see the point myself.

What do you use it for? music and satnav?

I've had several cars with inbuilt satnav and never used them I always use waze on my phone. The radio in IRIS is awful so I just use a radio player on my phone and bluetooth it to Iris. I do this in all my current and past cars and would never mess about with McLaren electronics, I would rather open Pandora's box rofl

My use is similar - I use my phone for music (and navigation when I need it) - but since I use Amazon Music I also have Auto Alexa in my cars, and simply do everything by voice.
The one thing that annoys me about IRIS is that it won't auto switch back to Bluetooth each time it connects with my phone.

For me the benefit would be the direct use of Google Maps and Waze. My biggest concern is that very little that comes from China is 100%. Even this unit appears to have problems with the radio signal. Not that I bother with the radio but I expect something that's supposed to work, to work.

I don't have an issue or fear with minor electrical mods like hard wiring a dashcam. I also fitted a secondary 12V auxiliary socket under the pax footwell which is neat and can't be seen. It means no charger cables running accross the consol.

But those are on your phone? Why have a second screen in the car? Uust interested in understanding the benefit, personally i would rather have no screen in a car and an integrated phone cradle like on the VW UP.

You actually only need one screen, the phone can be chucked in the glovebox. It just brings everything onto the one larger screen and I think it would generally be better than iris to use, which wouldn't be hard, if it works.

The idea is nice, but having used Android car hardware in the past it wouldn't be for me. Especially coming from abroad with little in the way of instructions/help if something goes wrong.

I'll stick to my phone mounted next to IRIS as it's sturdy and not on the windscreen getting in the way.

The whole thing, i loved the simplicity of the 570s interior with the floating screen, but that intrudes way to much into the cabin and dominates it, its just to big in my opinion.

I can’t disagree with that. It dominates instead of blending in like iris.
It was just a thought biggrin

Nice.

I’m just using a 3D printed job at the moment so that I can use the MagSafe charger. Not pretty but gives good phone visibility

Does the job! Mine is MagSafe and mounted to the rear of IRIS. I made a batch of them for 540/570/600 and have them coming this week hopefully! Shot peened and dyed, mega quality smile

Yeah the MagSafe mount is strong enough even on very bumpy A-road blast, tested it a few times now biggrin
