Hi all, I have got another case of the expensive itchy feet that all us petrol heads suffer from. Really interested in a mclaren (would be my first experience of the brand).

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of this car??

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2022100704...

I know the bright colours are more popular but I love the look of a 570 in black.

Considering cancelling my Emira order and trying a mclaren instead...

Have you driven one yet ? I’m sure you will love it
I don’t know the car but i do quite like the black too, I wouldn’t be put off by the mileage either, it would be worth trying to get 2 years warranty added in if you do a deal.

I have dealt with mclaren Glasgow for the last 3 years with my own 570s and they have been nothing short of excellent, a good bunch of guys.

Echo the above suggestion, in my experience McLaren dealers have been very welcoming and helpful, and willing to offer a test drive. And if you drive the car, even for 20-30 mins at up to 40-50mph, I think you'll know. So you have nothing to lose by having a go in one biggrin

The spec of that car looks decent to me. Obviously the mileage is high in McLaren terms for the year, but there are plenty higher without issues, and the price looks to more or less reflect the mileage. I believe clutch oil is meant to be changed at 20k miles (~£450), you may want to check that has indeed been done if you decide you're interested in that car. As a late-2019 car, any paint corrosion is covered for another two years, so no stress there.

McLaren do a vast range of colours inside and out, not everyone wants to drive a bright yellow supercar, so if it works for you then all to the good. There seem to be a lot of black ones around, so you've got plenty of choice.

I am 4 weeks into a black 570s spider from Hatfield Mclaren and loving every minute- the peculiarities (windows not closing/some electrical issues) almost make it fell more special ! (previous cars are M5's and GTRs)- an event every time you get in it :-)

Thanks for all the replies so far, certainly encouraging me towards a mclaren.

Mileage I am OK with, much less likely to have had a 'correction'/blocker, but have to accept it does affect value.

I will keep the thread updated with progress...

I had a very quick look at this car when I dropped mine off with McLaren Glasgow, and it looked superb.

Agree on the above comment. Glasgow are a superb dealership

Nothing to add on the car but X3, nearly pulled the trigger on a Mclaren there years ago and the guys are very welcoming and happy to let you test drive.

There's a good slip road on the test drive, funny thing you pick up speed quickly and I asked the sales guy what's the fastest you've been in a test drive, he noted 170 in a 720s and he had to give the guy a good telling off.

Just for the sake of considering alternatives, McManc have one with half the mileage for £5k more, albeit a 2018 car. Wheels are even lighter, although the partially red seats may split opinion
https://preowned.mclaren.com/eu/gb/en/vehicles/mcl...
Illustrates the mileage/value trade-off anyway.

Think carefully about the mileage, I had one at 36k and had to give it away as had no interest, 2016 Coupe with a good spec too.
I’d go the extra £5k for a lower mileage to save grief later on.
Black is great, same colour as my 600LT and quite rare too.

Looks a lovely car but as others have said bit high on miles, the price reflects this but will always be a bit leggy

This car at Dick Lovett is interesting https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203143...
2020, 9k miles, £115k, black/black.
On the upside, only £5k more for much lower mileage and a <3yr old car, should still have its original 3yr warranty til March next year, which mitigates the issue of buying outside the dealer network.
On the downside, why's it been for sale since this March, and what is a nearly-new car still within manufacturer warranty period doing outside the approved used scheme? Missed service, or mods, meaning it can't be warranted? Otherwise could be interesting.

I think the Dick Lovett car was over £10K more originally and has only just been reduced, on a slightly different note are folk still buying this time of year ?? I’m looking at purchasing a 570S but looking at leaving it till spring time , hopefully the markets settled slightly and the weathers better by then ??

On the downside, its black, i shouldnt think many people want a black Mclaren when they offer some of the best colours of any manufacturer.

The op is looking to buy, another ph'er has just bought a 600LT, folk are always buying, of course the market slows autumn/winter but it doesnt stop and come next spring when people want a car for the summer, prices will creep up, supply and demand!

Yeah, I think that is right. People are always buying. Yes the market slows a bit during winter. And yes there is likely to be downward pressure on prices with the economic pain coming. But my view is there is always a reason not to buy, look at the threads on here about second hand car values (there are several) and house crash coming (has been running for 4 plus years now..?) life is too short to be always be waiting to get a good deal. News flash-- there is always a better deal, just like there is always someone with a better car, bigger house, etc etc. But life and experience and memories can't be put off constantly just to secure something better.

Just my view, and how I try to live, I would be constantly unhappy if I was always comparing/waiting/watching the market. I would rather just get on and enjoy my time. But we all have different outlooks I accept.

Regarding the DL car - seems strange such a young car is outside of dealer network.

I don’t think it’s a case of always being a reason not to buy, I’ve been buying cars and bikes for over 40years now, sometimes bought in winter sometimes summer, spring or autumn. The thing is for me “now” is if I did buy it would probably sit in the garage most of the time for the next 4 months doing very little miles all the time depreciating and all the time the warranty running out. I always buy cash so at the minute my moneys working harder invested rather than sat in the garage, each to their own like everything else I suppose, I’ll get into one next year now, might even go for a 600 or 720,, anyway good luck with finding the right car, plenty of choice at minute ..

 • Deposit taken on original car you posted about, must just be me who’s a fair weather driver 🤣

I still drive through the winter, granted its not as often as the summer, but a couple or three decent days in a month puts a smile on my face and thats what its all about.

I struggled to find the right car in spring 21, i missed a good 4 to 6 weeks of decent driving, would prefer to have it sat ready than get frustrated i couldnt find what i wanted.

I admire your passion for driving Steetbeat, and I do know where your coming from, btw what do you drive? a McLaren ?? ( sorry bit new on here ). We spend a bit of time away now over winter so between being home, salty roads and pouring rain not sure I’d use a Mc that much at all this time of year, might be a different story once I have one though,,

Yes, a 570s.

Seems like a lot of owners make use of their cars through winter on here, I agree if you don't plan to spend much time ik the UK over winter it's a bit pointless, but, if its the right car/spec for you I wouldn't hesitate to buy now.

I get your point re using up warranty etc, but unless you buy and sell in a season, you're always got a winter to consider if you intend to keep a car.
