570s - Worth the money?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm new to Mclaren, I have heard all the horror stories, specially with this dealer, listening to Jay'em on YouTube etc..
How does car seem, anyone know anything about this vehicle?

No more issues than any other Supercar manufacturer in reality.
Certainly some cars have had issues and some dealers not playing ball, but listening to the non owners mates won’t give you any accurate assessment.
The most accurate barometer is probably from the McLaren Owners Club who appear to have a very high percentage of owners very satisfied.
Remember Ferrari and Lamborghini are almost a generation behind on technology than McLaren ( info entertainment excepted )
Jayems story is old news and quite likely not the full truth! Nothing wrong with Mac Manchester imo.
The 570s is a fantastic useable Supercar, buy one and enjoy !

I'd be looking at spending a bit more and getting the Spider, so much more car for your money and with a carbon tub there's no scuttle shake whatsoever unlike the other's.
So many people on here have tried Maclaren's and have had nothing but positive feedback, a few gremlins but all highly strung hand built supercars have the same issues.
I'm on my second with 15k miles from new and would'nt consider any other brand.

Can you elaborate on this? I can understand that the carbon tub tech is more advanced but I’m at a loss to understand where McLaren’s engine, gearbox, suspension or hybrid drivetrain technology is a generation ahead of the Italians. pistonuser said:

That example looks an ok spec - it's got lift and carbon interior (as most do, but important for values) and also soft-close doors, electric seats, and decent wheels. Price seems competitive for an approved used one which should come with min 12 months McLaren extended warranty, and it's quite a late model and low mileage.I'm new to Mclaren, I have heard all the horror stories, specially with this dealer, listening to Jay'em on YouTube etc..

Personally I'm looking for one in a more interesting colour - and McLaren has a fantastic palette - but I appreciate not everyone wants to be the centre of attention (!)
In terms of need to know, McLaren extended warranty is ~£3k a year on these, so either keep that up (after the initial 1 or 2 years) or budget a similar sum yourself. Make sure the ceramic brake discs are in good condition. Otherwise fuel, insurance etc nothing out of the ordinary for what it is. Bubbling of alloy panels is an issue, but on a 2019 car you've got two more years factory warranty on that so not a short term concern.
No reason not to buy it really as far as I can see (and they're fantastic to drive).
I don't know the car, but wouldn't take too much of what was said previously about McManchester. Plenty of happy owners on the owners club.
I agree with the above on the colour choice but thats just personal preference. But it might make it more difficult to sell on if its not a popular colour.
Personally, if you are going for a coupe I'd be tempted to drop your budget and get a 540C. Save yourself £10k which buys a lot of warranty and a holiday, for not much less of a car. Unless you are keen on the CC brakes. Or if you can, I'd up the budget and go for the Spyder. I have a 540C (I couldn't stretch to the 570 Spyder) and massively miss taking the roof off on a nice day.

Proactive chassis control....
This tech has been around in various levels of sophistication since the 60s. Just because McLaren are using it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a generation ahead of the competition. And I’m not sure, but is it even available on the entry level McLarens?ANOpax said:

I am not massively clued up, but what other supercars run no anti roll bar? Adaptive dampening yes, but the proactive chassis control is unique to Mclaren (i think)Not on the sports series no, but everything else.

I’m sure you’re right that proactive chassis control is unique to McLaren but the point I was trying to make is that doesn’t necessarily make it next generation. Not on the sports series no, but everything else.
For example, the pre-chamber system in the Maserati nettuno engine is also unique but does that make it next gen?

Nope!As for the McManchester/JayEmm discussion... Two sides to every story and JayEmm has done extremely well out of it regardless. The guy who actually owned the car, well, look at the car ownership history there and read between the lines - if someone has colossal issues with *every single car* they buy, that tells its own story...
From my personal experience of buying a car from McManchester and them sorting out everything in a way that left me happy, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend someone buy a car from them or use their service department for ongoing work. Not perfect, but MORE than good enough looked at in the round. Everyone I speak to in person who has had dealings with them seems to feel the same way, which is more than I can say about some other McLaren dealers in the UK.
ALL cars have issues, regardless of brand - the Internet just likes to single out McLaren for whatever reason. I'm sure people have had really terrible experiences but then again I know of multiple absolutely shocking stories from other brands. I'd like to think that issues in McLaren land are no more prevalent or serious than the other brands, they just don't know how to "cover them up" yet.

Totally nail on head there, load of ole clickbait rubbish As for the McManchester/JayEmm discussion... Two sides to every story and JayEmm has done extremely well out of it regardless. Perhaps not strictly from a tech standpoint but well from a performance one. Feels like I am driving rings around F8's and Huracan xxx's at Oulton Park in my lowly old 2016 650.Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
