Waiting on a 12c Windscreen from Autoglass
Discussion
My main problem with Autoglass is the standard of their work.
My wife’s brand new GLC was delivered with a crack in the screen. Dealer sent autoglass, who proceeded to mount the windscreen crooked. You could get the thickness of a pound coin in between the glass and roof line on the passenger side, and a 5p in the same gap on the drivers side. So had to be replaced again.
On my Range Rover they snapped the mounts on the windscreen pillar trim, which then chattered away and subsequently blew away on the motorway.
Utterly hopeless…

Be careful with Autoglass, even when you have it in writing that they will supply an OEM screen, they still tried to supply me with a cheap copy.
They took about 6 weeks to get me an original screen, but even the dealer couldn’t source one quickly. That was for a Urus btw.
I doubt it, the cheap copy they tried to install, turned up cracked.. lol. They took about 6 weeks to get me an original screen, but even the dealer couldn’t source one quickly. That was for a Urus btw.
It does seem counter intuitive. However in the merciless drive to loose weight - I think it was 5% from every part the windscreen was inferior by being so thin.
The UK roads are full of debris, chips, stones, sticks and much more. Motorways even have mini trees growing in the central reservation. All of these are possible to hit the windscreeen and cause a crack / chip.
Maybe in Europe a thinner screen is possible. But not in the UK.

So I went today to get the new windscreen installed.
When they took out the old one that was installed by McLaren they showed me how messy the adhesive was. It was thick on one side and thin on the other.
Anyway story doesnt end. All ready to leave , then I notice a band of distortion in the screen. Seems the new McLaren OEM screen is a bad due to what seems a manufacturing fault.
So they need to order another one and we need to start all over again.
The drama continues. Sometimes I wonder is the McLaren worth the time it consumes from me.

Get your insurer to use anyone other than Autoglass, they are one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with,When they took out the old one that was installed by McLaren they showed me how messy the adhesive was. It was thick on one side and thin on the other.

A 12C (or any P11 McLaren) screen has to be installed top down, you cant install it bottom down like on other cars as it will rest on the CF tub and will just crack again. I know many McLaren owners who's Autoglass screen has cracked very soon after replacement.
You don't need to use Autoglass, you can use your main dealer and your excess increases from £50 to £115 (approx.)

The dealer unfortunately cracked the windscreen on mines whilst in for a service.
Replacement windscreen 1 cracked after 2 months.
Replacement windscreen 2 arrived back at my house cracked.
Replacement windscreen 3 is doing OK so far.
These were all fitted at the main dealer, and Woking wanted to inspect screen 2 and be present when screen 3 fitted.
The windscreen on the 675 is thinner to save weight but apparently more expensive.
Replacement of windscreen 1 was initially declined on goodwill, but after a chat with the dealer we decided that wasn't happening.
I was told another semi local owner had the same issues with a replacement screen on his 675.
Defo seems an issue.

Worth mentioning that McLaren Dealers are not the perfect option for windwscreens.
When Autoglass took off a McLaren installed windscreen the bond was thick one side and thin the other.
I was shocked I should of taken a photo.
Lets be frank. It all depends on the installer themselves NOT the company you use. Find a person that does the job properly and watch the guy do the work without pissing him off too much. People are so damn sensitive but these days you seem to need to micro manage everything or you suffer more.
