I’ve been planning to buy a McLaren for the last three years or so but various life events (like a house refurbishment) and COVID meant that there were other priorities, but now the car is rising back to the top of the list. Three years ago I was looking at a 570S Spider but I now see a 600LT as the sweet spot for value. I do like the look of the 720S but the Spiders are too much for me. Prices have strengthened a fair bit over the last few years but we now seem to be on more of a downward trend.

I am interested in people’s views on options, I would want lift and B&W, and more carbon is nice, but beyond that I am currently a bit clueless. Most of the options seem to be cosmetic - which is fine - rather than required. I like cosmetic options too, but don’t want to miss anything critical!

Whilst I normally buy cars outright, this would be financed as £160K+ is too much to have tied up so any finance provider recommendations and ballpark figures would help too. I would prefer to buy from a McLaren dealer but that’s not a must have and will speak to the usual suspects. I would look to get a Thorney inspection / warranty too.

Grateful for any feedback! I’m in the early days of this process so need to start educating myself.

I would suggest alastar bols would be a good place to look , his reputation proceeds him. Lift, seats and colour would be my suggestions as a must, most other things are nice to have's. They seem like an absolute bargain in comparison to everything else, even with the recent years where prices have creeped.

If you do buy one from a McLaren dealer, it'll come with 12 months McLaren warranty on it (and you may be able to negotiate more), so no need to go to Thorney until year 2.

Panel corrosion is covered for 5 years from new separately, so should be fine for a couple more years on these.

I wouldnt get too out of shape if the right car came up without B&W personally, colour is far more significant when it comes to selling than audio option.

Hi there

Be careful when viewing cars, one I looked at recently had severe brake wear to the ceramics, but the dealer said they are fine, also be on the look out for corrosion in all the usual places.

A little scary buying one of these but I am determined to find a nice car. smile
