Anyone here considering going from a 720s to a new Artura?

Been piling the mileage onto my 720 and fancy something new before it starts going wrong once my warranty expires.

Will the Artura be considered a lesser car than a 720?

The Artura is £30k cheaper, 40hp less powerful and 50kg heavier than the 720S, and lacks the cross-linked ProActive chassis control. It's the successor to the 570S, however much McLaren say otherwise, and so I think the answer to your final question is 'yes'.

According to TG, there will be a facelifted 720S 'soon' with a bit more power (think 12C to 650S), followed later by a complete replacement powered by a higher-power version of the Artura's V6 drivetrain.

You could look to extend the McLaren warranty on your 720S for the time being, and wait and see / register your interest in the upcoming facelift, see how much of a step on it is or isn't from the 720S. I imagine that will get an LSD, for one thing.

I hear the facelift, badged 750S is around 12 months away. Cosmetic and tech upgrades, possibly with a LSD.

Seems a strange thing, cant recall anyone particular saying the 720s requires a lsd, why wouldnt they put that on the 765lt if they felt it was needed?

Personally i would warranty and stick with the 720s unless you are desperate for a hybrid.

I watched the Evo Artura video review a few weeks ago and the summary was "720S is still the one to have".

Reasons they would:
- If the Artura having one reflects a change of philosophy at McLaren since the 765LT was finalised
- It might be hard to keep selling the open diff as lighter/better, if the Artura has a locking item
- Unclear that an extra 30PS is going to persuade owners to upgrade from the already-ballistic 720S, so LSD would be a significant mechanical upgrade to attract buyers (especially if it goes down well with Chris Harris et al on the launch)

Reasons they wouldn't:
- 720S chassis designed/developed around an open diff as you say
- Artura has a totally different gearbox, so not necessarily straightforward to just fit the same e-LSD to the older seven-speed
- weight/cost/warranty

All fair comments.

Ive never once got out of my 570s though, road and track use and thought i have missed it having a lsd, im not saying it wouldnt be "marinally" better with one, but its not a game changer in my opinion. I wonder how many lsd's Thorney or Litchfield have sold for Mclarens?
