Hi All,
I am a long standing porsche guy (991 gt3, .2 rs, 2RS, speedster...). I was seriously considering a 720s spider or 600lt spider as in the UK they are priced within 25k of one another used. I have also just added the 675lt Spider to the mix, assuming they have proven to be reliable and trouble free.

These cars represent great value with the 600lt spider almost new £150kish($200k) and 720s for £170kish.

I intend to test drive them both but very much value the experience of actual owners as you can't really judge cars properly from a test drive in the city.

Please share your thoughts and ownerhsip experiences. Please also keep in mind:

1) I am looking for something special and connected. Something that brings out the kid in me. I have a modded stage 2 2018 M5 for daily family duties.

2) This isn't a track car but is for top down driving pleasure on twisites in the UK and Europe. Spirited driving.

3) I would like to avoid maintenance headaches as this really takes pleasure from the ownership experience.

4) Assume the car will be owned for a minimum of 12 months. Most likely 28 months.

5) I am not looking for a cold piece of surgical, engineering excellence (Turbo S). Some cars are too capable and overengineered to the point they don't feel special on the road. I want something that names me feel like a badass racing driver, makes my palms sweat and face smile.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and share your experience and opinions.

In before Rambo...

675 is the one to go for, if you can afford it and find the spec you want.

600 fantastic bit of kit on a reduced budget

720 incredibly fast, more refined for road use, will get hit highest by depreciation, arguably less reliable but I personally have no experience of this.

You gotta go with your gut!

I was wondering between 600LT and 720S, and went for the 720S. I had a 12C before that and didn't feel that the 600LT was a big enough leap overall, although I have no doubt that the 600LT would be seconds quicker a lap.

The 675LT seems to be the McLaren/modern equivalent of the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale. Huge amounts of love for it but I always thought it was expensive for what you got.

Probably 720S £140k+ (2017); 720S spider £190k+ (2019).

Point number 5 rules out the 720s straight away.

675LT would be the one if you can wait to find one in a spec you are happy with, along with the hefty annual warranty and service costs.

600LT is probably the one you can get into quicker, plenty will still be within manufacturers warranty, mine is till the end of next year.

Either of the LT's will be epic. 720s would be the only one, based on what you have said you want from the car, that might leave you wishing you'd bought one of the other cars........

He seems to have a lot of nostalgic love for the 12C series as that’s where he got in.

A lot of folks have love for the 675LT and a classic it will surely be, however the 720s is an altogether different proposition.

It is more advanced everywhere and although a bit heavier than the 675lt and a bit less sharp unless you are tracking, it is the better car.

The 4.0 engine is a vast improvement over the 3.8, the Monocoque 2 much better for entry and exit, Aero along sides and rear wing are better. Where some issues arise are in build quality with a mixed bag on the 720s but 675’s were not without issues.

600LT great for tracking and hooligan about but 720s is so much more for your money.

JT may or may not be biased but he is right

600LT Spider if you want an event each time you drive it, standard suspension gives you such great feedback from the road surface and with the exhausts just behind the back window it's just a brilliant bit of kit. Coming from a 911 the steering will be a revelation, I have plenty of those and would never look back.
Not driven the 675, suspect it maybe feel less connected with it's trick suspension setup but will also be an amazing drive.

Tough choice you've got between these two.

Would love if you drive all 3 for an hour minimum and report back on here on you're decesion.
I went 600lt spider, and I cannot see me selling it for a very very long time.
No wrong answer here.
720 spider is a slightly less of an adrenalin fix compared to the other 2, all depends what you want from the car.
Please inform us how you get on..

What a lovely conundrum to be in, through different channels I've heard the 720s is a bit Laggy, I'm sure Thorney could sort that but the LT's would be my choice with the chassis and steering niceties and improved aero.

This is my plan but most test drives aren't an hour long.

I wish I could find a 765lt spider at list. I would think Covid has hit so many businesses that one or two orders may cancel or not take delivery. Maybe I am dreaming.

I get a 720s does it all and that's part of its appeal. Inalsp cant rule it out withiut driving it.

But, I don't want a car that does it all. I have kids and when I have the chance to take out my 2 seat sports car, I want something that makes the hair on arms stand up and the kid on me smile from ear to ear.
