Hi,

Has anyone seen this or know about this vehicle.

Never owned a Mac, what would I need to look out for?

Seems well priced?

https://www.parks.uk.com/mclaren/used-cars/1385743...

Thanks

Looks like non standard PS Cup 2 tires on it so could have been tracked more than most, and surprised McLaren dealer hasn't swapped them back standard Pirelli PZero’s. Those tires also need a bit of heat in them, so if you're mainly on road they aren't really the best option.

That age it will be out of manufacture warrantee, so check if it comes with a McLaren factory extended warrantee, if not you will definitely want to get it independently inspected before purchase, for example [url=https://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/]Thorney Motorsport[url]. IIRC Park’s usually does 12 warrantee, not sure if that is equivalent to the McLaren one, which does cover some potentially problematic options on a McLaren which others may not.

Consider the costs for maintenance can he high, if no extended warranty you might want to consider a third party warrantee, again Thorney provides options there.

Option wise it's got all the things I would look for.

Hope this helps.

Not familiar with the car but just beware this is one of the early releases with the red swoosh on the back.

The later releases, with the silver swoosh on the back, had updated software which resolved a lot of the electronical gremlins from the original releases.

I think many early 720s will have had the software update by now if they had ongoing electrical issues, a lot did not have issues. McLaren did not make it well known but red swoosh cars could have the upgrades but you had to have a good reason to get dealer to carry it out.

Imo Red or Silver swoosh is a bit of a red herring and far better to know whether gorilla glass, accumulators and paint have caused problems and or been rectified.

Also as supplied by a main dealer will have a full 12 months warranty so plenty of time to get anything resolved if an issue arises.

Once again very few cars have had issues in comparison to the amount sold and just unfortunate that folks are more likely to voice dissatisfaction rather than satisfaction

I had a dreadful experience with that dealer.

Also a Scottish firm so different laws if you have to go legal.

So did I, took them to court in the end to get my money owed.

Surely not if you purchase in England?

I had a deposit in this car but ended up going for a newer one at McLaren Glasgow. My impression of the dealer was very good, and I know numerous people that have bought off them and not had an issue, but I understand everyone’s circumstances are different. They gave me the deposit back straight away. Speak to Richard, that’s who I was speaking to, very nice guy. I have a video of the car if you would like me to PM it over?

I never actually went to see the car as the miles did put me off, but at least it should have had all the work done. Interesting if it’s had Michelins put on as stated above, I was under the impression that McLaren will not extend the warranty unless the car is fitted with manufacturer approved Pirelli tyres, so I would certainly check that directly with McLaren rather than the dealer.

My warranty was extended with non Mclaren wheels and Michelin tyres so it can be done but possibly depends on how you get on with the dealer?

I think the issue you have is if something major goes wrong it’s not the dealer that authorises the repair, but corporate. Obviously if they were already on you would plead ignorance, personally I’d still be cautious. Although I really want up put Michelins on mine, I’m still worried about the factory warranty.

Tyres as with brake pads can not invalidate either manufacturers or extended warranty’s unless they are complicit in any faults ie: track only tyres used on road

Have you spoke to McLaren about that? Manchester and Glasgow are both telling me corporate have the right to deny warranty on anything linked to tyres (ESC, TC etc…) if I swap to Michelin, as are multiple people on McLaren Life. I’d love to swap out the P Zero for PS4S and put Surface Transforms on but worried about manufacturer warranty.

They may want to protect their brand loyalty but the law does not.

Unless they can prove a non OEM product has caused the failure then they are required under CRA 2015 to honour the terms

However you are also mentioning Rotor Replacement which is altogether a different proposition and could cause issues on a warranty claim

Very interesting. I really want to change to PS4S, not a fan of the P Zero, thanks for the insights, appreciated!

Main dealer I dealt with confirmed the above when I had MPS4S fitted prior to it's inspection for the warranty renewal. Issues may only arise when tyre/wheel sizes are changed from original.

Brilliant, thanks again, PS4S will be going on ASAP.

Love to hear your thoughts on the swap as I liked the PS4S on the R8 so would definitely consider again.

One thing I’ve heard is that in EU it’s hard if not impossible to get a generic PS4S only Porsche versions. On the R8 that didn’t bother me but like yourself concerned about the warranty

your main problem putting PS4S on a 720 is Michelin don't do a Generic or Mac version of that tyre in the original size, you can only get Porsche or Audi variants which both have minor compound differences. I spoke to Michelin and asked them which they would recommend for the 720 and they said they couldn't comment or wouldn't say. not saying it will be a huge issue but i've had it before where you put a non OEM or non Generic tyre on a car and in my case it made tyre noise at motorway speeds almost unbearable (this wasn't in a mclaren though)
