Talk me out of a 720
Discussion
evening all
i'm a self confessed car nut who has owned some decent cars over the Years. 6 Months ago i moved it up a league, buying a Ferrari FF. at the time i swore i'd never sell it but ive had my head turned by a 720. The FF has been great but the reality is i don't use the back seats that often. i'm due to go look at a 720 (and 488 for comparison) this weekend as a replacement to the FF. Has anyone got any words of wisdom or insights as to what to expect. Thanks!

Do it. I just did today!!!
Long time Ferrari owner and loved the four seaters (had couple of 456 and 612) and latterly 599. Switched to McL a year ago and loved the OCD detail, drive, ride blah blah blah.
Did regret it in fact loved it so much I went to full fat with 720s. See other post
Drive them all and see what suits you but do the 720s last

When all is said and done it is your choice but a 720s is a formidable car.
As quick as many Hypercars and certainly the bargain of the McLaren range.
A true all rounder with far more advanced aero than the 675LT and 600LT and greater power.
I have been considering a Pista but after seeing the pictures this week of the one on its back in the US with a crushed in roof I’m having second thoughts.
Any Mac is a step up in terms of strength and structural integrity in comparison to a Ferrari

Posting on the McLaren forum isn’t going to get many posters talking you out of a 720.
Not sure - given the usual comments on here, I'm amazed it's been positive. There's a very nice twisty road on the way to my g/f's - rare to get a clear run on it - although did on my 650 test drive a couple of years ago which was a big part in my decision to buy the car.
Amazingly, got a clear run this evening even though it was rush hour.
Blimey, they are good cars.

Just do it! You may have seen my post on here (maybe worth a read if not) you'll read first hand what these cars do to you! You'll see all the positives on there and some good feedback on this post. So I'll give you a couple of downsides:
- the noise. It does sound really good, don't get me wrong, and particularly with the 720 a lot better from the outside than the inside! However, compared to Ferrari's and Lambo's? It definitely loses on sounds in a Top Trumps battle
- if you want to tackle the noise, the only way is to change the cats, decat or sports cats, then you'll be in the world of a void warranty. Up to you whether you want that pain / peace of mind.

Or get a spider. I really appreciate the sound of my 650s spider with the backlight dropped - especially when driving around town - fantastic bass rumble - and then a snarling howl on top.- the noise. My old F355 really only sounded good at high revs - sounded like a flatulent 4 cylinder around town.
I got my 720S Spider 6 weeks ago. My two cars before this one were a 991.2 GT3 and a Huracan Evo RWD. Long history of owning performance cars. Believe me when I say this: the 720S is hands-down the most astonishing machine I've ever driven. I've taken it on track already twice in the few weeks I've owned it, and it is just sensational.
One thing I would say is that the spider version is probably the one to go for, though, not the coupe. Thanks to the carbon monocoque there are no disadvantages in rigidity compared to the coupe, and the added weight is minimal at 49kg, so you have essentially identical performance, but with the *huge* benefit of an infinitely superior soundtrack, drama and involvement from having the roof down, or just the rear glass window dropped. Even driving around town with just the rear glass lowered you hear the exhaust and engine much, much better than you can in the coupe. And with the roof down on a sunny day the feeling of connectedness is superb. The spider version really solves the criticisms of muted soundtrack and a certain remoteness that have been levelled at the coupe. Go for it!
