991.2 GT3 to 600LT or 720S
Discussion
I’ve recently sold my 991.2 GT3 and now tentatively considering replacing it with a 600LT or a 720S coupe
I live in a fairly rural part of the U.K. and the roads aren’t the best, the GT3 was acceptable on the majority of them but did sometimes feel like you were holding on as it crashed over the poor surface even with the PASM set to “soft”
I’d assume the trick suspension on the 720S would cope with this better? I’ve driven a MP4 and was hugely impressed with the ride comfort. I’m assuming a 720S would be similar and the 600LT would be much stiffer?
I’d purchase with a Mclaren warranty so I’m not unduly worried about running costs, I’d imagine very similar to the GT3 whilst still under warranty?
95% of its use would be as a B road weekend or evening blast with the possibility of the occasional track day.
Any must haves? Luckily my old GT3 had every option ticked by the original owner. I think the carbon packs add a lot to the cars, I’d also assume nose lift would be a necessity?
Anything specific to look for? My budget would run to a 2018-19 car.
Many thanks in advance.
This post reminds me of myself around 3 years ago.
Try both and decide what’s right for you as both 600 and 720 are such amazing cars.
The 720 for out and out performance with amazing suspension, it really can make the most average of drivers look like a F1 star.
I ended up going from GT3 to 600 as I prefer the rawness and more dynamic and intimate feel behind the wheel.

This may not be much help as only gone from a GT4 to a 600LT, my experience says I wouldn’t worry, the 600 surprised me with its compliance on normal roads, not quite the magic carpet of a 650s but still comfy enough, 600 did have comfort seats though and not buckets, good luck and enjoy

Dynamically how much different is it to the GT4? Obviously straight line speed will be miles apart.. but cornering ?Ran a Manuel.2 and a 600 together for a couple of years.
600 had the Senna seats which once in are superb, better in my opinion than the 918’s. The 600 is more compliant over poor surfaces than the GT3 but nowhere near the levels of a 720.
Happy to try and answer any specific questions you may have.

If a 600 is more compliant than the GT3 then that’s pretty much made my mind up as that would be my preference.
Looking at what’s currently on the market the specs do seem to vary by quite a degree but prices are much within £10k of each other.
Would you say carbon packs are a deal breaker? Personally I think without them they look a bit cheap.
Any other options that you’d consider a necessity?
I think the only must have would be front lift, the front splitter is very low.
The rest is all personnel choice, I think on a lighter colour car carbon pack 2 looks very good as you notice the contrast, I wanted the Senna seats as it was an LT only option and for me they added to the LT experience. I also think the vented front wings look very good.

Thanks guys I viewed the car on Saturday and it’s absolutely stunning. Carbon packs 1 2 & 3 along with MSO carbon roof, mirrors etc etc.
Needs one piece of PPF replacing then I’ll either collect myself or have it transported to me, the drive to Ascot from Essex on Saturday was a nightmare after the police closed the QE2 bridge when we were around a mile away with no way of getting off the M25 resulting in us sitting stationery for an hour and a half.

Well it’s here! Spent a couple of days detailing and coating it and half of yesterday driving it.
So much more torque than the GT3 and pulls all the way to the redline and then it all happens again!
Rides over poor road surfaces way better and with more compliance than the GT3 did even in sport.
Lots to learn, just wish I’d bought it in the spring when the roads are drier.
Spec on it is pretty outstanding. Hats off to who specced it from new.

You forgot the mention the wing louvres which were a £9960 option alone.
