Should I upgrade from my 570GT to a 720S
Discussion
As a long time Ferrari owner and I swapped into McL last year and think my 570GT is a thing of beauty and an absolute weapon to drive fast, slow and everything in between. Dealer “lent” me a 720S while car was being serviced and I did an epic cross country drive. Great salesman as all I now want a 720S. Has anyone done this upgrade and welcome peoples pro/cons…
Went from a 570s to a brief period in a 600LT and now in a 720s.
If I’m honest the 570 for just road use did and still does tick all the boxes.
It was a great car as is a 570GT and more than fast enough for UK road use. 720 is too fast on road imo and can seem a bit of a waste as a 570 can do it all but I guess we all want the top of the range

After a long parade of 'super beetles', NSX and a Ferrari made the switch to a 570S Spider and absolutely still love the car 20 months later. That being said, I'm looking for the perfect Papaya Spark 720S Spider to carry me off into the sunset.. There is no reasonable explanation for this desire other than at my age it is an existential crisis...do it now or never. Looking back, I can't for the life of me understand my long affair with fast VWs that are as numerous as Toyotas.

The 570GT is the best looking modern generation McLaren by a long way IMHO. How about a Lichfield engine upgrade to 700ish HP? They also offer suspension mods too.
All very subjective. I went from a 12C to a 720 and bypassed the 570 completely. In part based on looks though to be honest the similar performance meant it wasn't a worthwhile upgrade. I just think it looks quite ordinary (as did the 12c) for a supercar. The 720 however will turn a head anywhere. Gets massively more positive attention than the 12C did. It's an interesting question and for me quite pertinent as I've had my 570s for 20 months now and its been great albeit with some warranty problems that would have been eyewatering had I not had one. The next level is either a 600LT or a 720S and if I had to really make a choice it would be the latter. However if I allow for the trade in shaft against a nice 3 yo 720S Im looking at £70k to change and tbh I'm not sure if that makes sense. My 570s already gets alot of attention from random people, it's blisteringly fast, drives really well and has a presence a Porsche could only dream of. I'm just not sure there's 70k of value in a bit more on the above positive characteristics! Don't get me wrong I'd love a 720S and all McLarens seems to represent good value in their respective sectors but to make the jump up seems hard to qualify unless u really want the big dog! At the 100k mark you have 911 Porsches, Audi R8s, AM Vantages etc nothing with the pedigree of a Sports Series Mclaren in short so yeah it's a tough sell!

I certainly wouldn’t just for the straight line performance. My daily EV already puts a 720 to shame in that department and the new one on order is even an order of magnitude faster. My 650 now feels like a classic old weekender in that department.
OToH, I’m a big fan of the super series suspension, which makes running the car all out on bumpy twisties a joy, and is a great complement to the feelsome steering.

I cant go anywhere in my 570s without heads turning, people of all ages and genders taking photos/filming and wanting to chat and i live a mile or two from Sandbanks where exotica is common place.Op if a 720s is in budget, why wouldnt you, even if its just to tick the box, if its not for you or worth the extra outlay, get back into another gt.
A 570GT was my entry to McLaren and I did 8k miles in a year. That really opened my eyes to what can be achieved by capable engineers...Woking witchcraft. Best looking of the 5 series, too. Swapped to a 720S for several reasons: i) it's got the unique McLaren suspension set up; ii) it's not far from being a Senna with less aero; iii) it looks like little else, looks stunning from any angle (to me) and incorporates very clever aero. It was and remains a game changer and the rest of the pack haven't caught up.
It's Woking witchcraft on steroids. I used to ground the GT spoiler regularly but never on the 720 and I have no idea why. Yes, it's ballistically fast, which is largely irrelevant on roads. It is firm but comfortable. Visibility is better than the 5 series (I found the rear glass of the GT distorted the view) and it carries as much as the GT in coupe form.
The only negative is fuel consumption. The 720 averages 20 mpg, whereas the GT was at 27.
I can't find anything I'd buy to replace the 720...it is peak supercar. Any LT will be dynamically more visceral but you've got to be prepared to compromise a bit on comfort.
So, I'd recommend the 720 if you can justify the extra cost over and above the already excellent GT. Nice problem to have!
