What's going on here? (Cheap 12C advert)
Discussion
A somewhat suspiciously cheap 12C has appeared on AT. Story reads fair enough, could be worth a punt....

But then a quick Google and we find the same car on CollectingCars just a couple months ago, apparently sold for 73.5k? Anyone know the story here? I guess there's a scam in the middle of it somewhere, just the AT ad doesn't read too suspicious to me?

Curious!

Very odd, the details don't really match up though do they.
AT add says 2013 car, full dealer service just serviced. The CC car says 2012 car and has indy servicing, latest done this year.
As an add the AT add is a bit poor with a lack of details.
Unless the sale didn't actually happen and so it is the same owner selling it. Still doesn't explain the inaccuracies.
I would guess it's a poor scam.

Soon as i see anything with, currently abroad or such rings alarm bells with me. I would bet you will get the old, i have loads of interest and you will need to leave a holding deposit in some dodgy escrow account type nonsense.
However, an email or phone call to arrange a viewing for when they are back would take 1 min, you never know till you ask.

Could well persuade McLaren to paint it for free, which (if it's a genuine ad) would make it a bargain. Might be less likely if you buy from a random generic dealer than McLaren Approved though.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154530832757?hash=item2...

The seat leather looks really grotty as well.
Overall comes across as a very neglected and badly maintained car, i.e. not just in need of a respray.

Mmmm I wonder if this has fallen outside the McLaren paint warranty period?
That doesn't necessarily matter. The paint warranty period is 5 years - corrosion is 10 - and I don't think the description of what the paint warranty "is" covers fading anyway. Which makes sense, since that's just life - albeit volcano colours can / do suffer it a tad more extremely than normal. It doesn't necessarily mean that McLaren wouldn't sort it though.
