I know warranties have been covered a fair bit before but I just wanted to clarify the situation for various buying scenarios and would appreciate any corrections or thoughts ...
I could be wrong but from what I understand the following is the case :
1. A car less than 3 years old from any source (Mac dealer, other dealer, private)
Warranty is transferable to new owner and prior to end of year 3 extended warranty can be purchased and subsequently renewed up to beginning of year 10 (but what happens if the car’s say 2.5 years old from a Mac dealer – is it sold with 6 months original warranty plus 6 months extended?).
2. A car over three years old from a Mac dealer
Will come with a full year’s warranty which can then be extended as above.
3. A car over three years old from a non-franchised dealer
A Mac extended warranty can only be applied if car is inspected by a dealer first and any faults rectified at a cost. Any existing extended warranty can not be transferred (unless car is on SOR so is effectively still privately owned).
4. A car over three years old from a private seller
An existing extended warranty can be transferred to the new owner and renewed prior to expiry. If no warranty is on the car it can be added subject to inspection as above.
I also presume these scenarios are similar with the Thorney warranty.

If a car is sold as an approved car from Mclaren Dealer it will come with a full years warranty as a minimum and as you say if the car is more than 2 years old but less than three years old it will have part Mclaren and part extended warranty. I believe it is only Mclaren Dealers who are able to top up the manufacturers warranty with the extended warranty and that part is non transferable.
