600LT Db Levels
Discussion
I have a 600LT and it has a pretty fruity exhaust on it (Brooke Racing) - I did a Goodwood trackday last November and at the static noise test (I think it holds it as 4000rpm or something like that) before being allowed out on track, it measured 105db, which was their limit, so all was fine.
Even then on track I wasn't black flagged and all was ok...

Thanks for the info and in your opinion is that significantly louder than your original Mclaren one?
If anyone has any of the oem Mclaren ones be great to know.
Hard to quantify exactly, at idle etc not really and up to about 4-5k rpm no real change, but then after that it does all get a bit bonkers...much louder and much more piercing sound as wellIf anyone has any of the oem Mclaren ones be great to know.

Hello just bumping this. Has anyone managed to get a 600LT into Bedford, ie past the 101dB static? I’ve seen a 570S there but I presume the 600 is a chunk louder even with no load on?
Thanks I’m advance
I struggled on my static test in a 570s with Sports Exhaust but no issue with driveby. They want 75% revs of red line but I managed in to keep in region of 70%.Thanks I’m advance
A 600LT will have difficulty passing a static 101db
Bedford is an absolute nightmare, passed static easily in one of my old cars, warning board first lap and then spent the rest of the day lifting off or short shifting past the 4 db metres, which makes it all a bit of a waste of time in my opinion.
Wish the UK tracks could just get a universal db level, drive by or static, at least we would all know what we had to achieve rather than worrying which track and for the "residents" at least they would then know what to expect if moving near a racing circuit.

Thanks for the responses.
That is broadly what I feared - and given the (lovely) top mounted exhausts I guess an after market muffler / extension for track days is quite difficult.
I’m weighing up a 600LT, have always loved the idea of one, but don’t want to restrict where I can use my car too much. And not that this will make the decision for me, but would have to cancel a day I have booked at Bedford if I do switch to it.

it's annoying because they are marketed as track toys but the reality is different because of this, like the 360cs for example which was impossible to get on anything but unrestricted daysThat is broadly what I feared - and given the (lovely) top mounted exhausts I guess an after market muffler / extension for track days is quite difficult.

I think you may fair better elsewhere in the world than this nimby infested isle, funny really that most Mclarens get critical comments due to noise/sound levels, but still too loud for "some" trackdays.I am not sure i would be put off an LT because i couldnt do Bedford, i find it pretty boring, flat and feautreless, most tracks will do noisey days that accomodate an LT.

I fully concur, Bedford isn’t the sort of track suited to a 600 LT. I am not sure i would be put off an LT because i couldnt do Bedford, i find it pretty boring, flat and feautreless, most tracks will do noisey days that accomodate an LT.
Most of the large UK circuits will accommodate a 600 LT however
Some fast sections and lots of run off (and not a million miles away from me). So it’s a shame to write it off, but I’ve had issues with lifting past the mics there which does take away from a day there whatever.
But definitely agreed, I’m not saying this changes my decision on whether to get the car or not.

No way a 600LT will pass at Bedford. And even if you pass the static one crack from that exhaust next to one of the meters and you're day is over. I totally get why you'd like to do Bedford in your Mclaren. I regularly do track days but lucky enough to have a couple of track cars, so don't need to use the Mclaren. But if I wanted to give it a go on track Bedford would be the place I'd feel most comfortable as it has to be the safest track in the UK. You'd really have to do something extreme to hit anything and even then you'd have to be really unlucky. So a great place to test the limits and without the >£100k value ruining the enjoyment. And yeah ok it's flat, so is Silverstone? It has a good mix of corners and a couple of not bad straights, I think it suits both small cars and larger supercars and all in between.
Anyway, if the budget allows a 600LT but noise limits are a concern, what about a 720s?

I think 720s are amazing, but for my expected usage, which is the odd road blast and a few track days, I get the impression I’d prefer the rawness of the 600 (coming from an Exige Cup so judging by your name maybe we have quite similar taste Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
