Looking at the classifieds I have noticed that the 2012 models onwards seem to command a slight premium even with higher mileage then the 2011 counterparts.

Is there a reason for this? I am sure the Mclaren Services that would of occured in 2012 onwards would of provided neccessary software updates etc?

Also I am aware a different paint manufacturer was used between these dates? Could this be the reason. Is it hard to match the old supplier paint ?

Are you sure about the paint?

I know that it did change, but I thought it was much later than that. Or maybe it's changed more than once. I think it's very unlikely that affects the price though - or even that most McLaren Owners know about it.

Ron Dennis did not want to start production of the 12C as he felt it was not ready, nor was the new facility being built for the production line, however his investors demanded a return so the 2011 cars were built in the Mclaren main building, next to the F1 workshops. They had a few teething problems with quality control etc so after a short while paused production until the new production facility came online. This gave them time to improve the gremlins and learn from their original production methods.
The 2011 cars were considered to be more of the development process by many, others feel that they were the ones built in the true home of Mclaren `f1 instead of the 2012 onward being from the new factory.

We have owned a 2012 12C Coupe, a 2013 12C Spider, and a 2014 12C Spider. From experience the best of the three was the 2014 12C Spider . It just felt much better built.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I think if the car checks out and has the service history etc I would be ok with that.

I am in the market for a 650s or 12c preferably in volcano red or orange if the right one comes along.

Only the first 100 cars were built in the MTC. These cars are actually sought after and can command a premium they were built by proper McLaren engineers. The first cars built in the MPC were the ones with issues. They had bought in a lot of new people to build the cars so there were some gremlins until they got up to speed. However any issues will now have been sorted. I had a very early 12C and I had niggles in my 1st year of ownership but once sorted it was fine. The 12C is no different to a Porsche 996. The issues are known and have almost all been sorted, just make sure you buy with a full history and extended Warranty. Also you can only warranty for 12 years, by buying 2 years on the 10th birthday. As cars approach the age of being out of factory warranty I expect prices will be lower on older cars to reflect this until there are sufficient specialists.

Although I have no doubt it affects the price - I've watched a couple of 650s without warranty sell very very quickly (within days) in the last few weeks.

It's actually quite amusing - the McLaren bashers would have you believe that these things are virtually impossible to sell (even if you do have a warranty) - and I expected as much when I bought mine.
But the reality now is that a number of people are saying they're looking for a McLaren and decent cars are selling quickly - with or without warranty. I often have a nagging feeling I should sell mine - it's nice to know there are buyers out there if I do!

Having owned both, if you can I would opt for the 650S, its a better car in just about every way.

Thats interesting. An extra 25k or so gets you from a 12c to 650s.

But at that pricepoint its a fairly significant sum. I have already driven and tried out a 12c and was amazed by it. I havent driven a 650s yet.

Question from me that extra 25k or so will be financed. Do I want to take that on. Nice to not have any finance.

I dont frequent ph much, mainly because of general bashers, see my another member to the fold thread with alfapapatango getting all bent out of shape because he was wrong.

Anyway, main question in relation to the above is how are the other marques forum sections fairing, are there plenty of prospective new owners looking/buying Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferrari etc, does anyone keep tabs elsewhere on here?

I was in a similar situation on price point. I was in 540/570 territory price wise and a good 650 would've been more so kept with my original plan of getting the best 12c I could, and own it.
