Keeping a 570/650 outside

Does anyone do this without any issues? To make space in my garages at the moment is a PITA. Looking at spending £80-100k on something for the summer. Security is not a problem, just whether these can stand up to the elements. Also, can you get the bonnet shut when you have a charger cable in? Used to use a CTEK on my Lambo's but they were garaged so bonnet was left open.
No problem getting the bonnet shut, just run the cable so it comes out of the top edge of the bonnet by the windscreen and in between the hinge and wing.
I keep mine outside (600) and no issues at all, trouble is that it's black so it's always dirty from dust and dew mixing, that's the only painful bit. A cover may help but I can't be arsed to keep putting it on and removing it, keen to start with but that rigmarole soon wore off.

My 650 has been outside since I bought it 18 months ago. I had a minor issue with a small amount of rain getting in but this was fixed by replacing one seal and discovering that the roof seal was fitted wrongly.
I run the charging cable at the top of the bonnet most of the time (wired a charging point direct to the battery) but also use the charging socket occasionally and the bonnet shuts fine with both.
Biggest issue I had was that some insurers won't touch it because it's not garaged which limited my options. Happy enough with Admiral now.

I had similar when I bought my 360 years ago.I wasn't sure it would fit in the garage, so got quotes for both. Broker called me later and said that the underwriters had looked at my property on Google maps and decided that my driveway down to the garage was a bit narrow (between my house and the neighbor) and so they would prefer I parked it outside!
As it happens, it did fit - and I told them I regularly parked a Porsche Cayenne on that bit of the driveway, so if that fit down there I could definitely reverse a Ferrari down there into my garage!

In the end I went with Admiral multicar who were happy with it on a drive but insisted on keeping the tracker.

That's odd. Admiral don't care if I have a tracker - it is cheaper with tracker, but since the price difference is less than the annual tracker subscription.....I had all sorts of issues with insurance on a drive, some would some wouldn't, some insisted not in a garage. I will ask about the tracker when I renew assuming I keep the car for another year. Having been out a couple of times today for a gentle drive I think it's likely I will be sticking with it unless I decide to go a bit up the range

So ended up going with Admiral in the end. They're happy for me to keep it on the drive and I'm using a 50m extension cable with the McL charger until I have made room to garage it. Tucked it away behind some storage containers in the corner for now, just so it's not seen from the road. Went over budget a bit but bonding well with a 2018 570S Spider.
I have just changed from a Lotus GT430 to a 540c. I used to leave the Lotus on the drive with a full cover, I couldn't use it if the car was dirty or dusty, it did mark the paint. Biggest issue I had was water pooling and then freezing, it actually damaged the carbon engine cover! 540 is living in the garage as my insurance insists on it plus an active tracker.

I agree, couldn't imagine dealing with that faff every time I wanted to use the car. The stormshield covers are expensive but marvellous. Soft, inner layer - I'd have no issue with it damaging expensive paint, and 2 more outer layers yet all breathable. Yes water does pool and freeze but easy to shake off and no prospect of it famaging anything. I'm a lazy bugger yet its so easy to put on / take off. Just as easy and quick as manouvering a supercar into a garage. I have no connection with them I'm just pleased with their product. But I have no garage so it was money well spent.

Do you not find that even though it's soft it still wears/dulls the paint? One I had a while back did and it was very soft inside? I suppose with mine it's mostly PPF so less likely to get damaged!Smoothound said:

I bought a generic cover for mine, mostly in case I had a problem with roof or windows one day.I did use it a couple of times when the car was clean but I knew the weather would be bad and I wasn't planning to use the car for a few days. It did make a noticeable difference to the surface of the car - PPF meant it looked good as new again in a few days but it convinced me I should leave it off unless I absolutely need to put it on.
I just couldn't be bothered messing around with a cover. If it was something a bit more special I would have waited until I had the garage space. I knew it would be outside this summer so a bonus is the Spider has a hardtop. Wouldn't want to leave something like the LP560 Spyder outside. I suspect that roof would not hold up so well
