Seen this coming up for sale, I’m actually after a copy of the ‘standard’ limited edition 1/1000 please shout if any of you have one for sale I couldn’t find one online, I emailed ‘collector studio’ about their listing but he said he had sold both copies recently. what price do we think this will fetch?

Has anyone bought a copy of the ‘059’ book which I think is in Japanese text only? Worth hunting down?
Any thoughts from anyone who has bought the Porter Press GTR book which is also 1000 copies?
Cheers for any guidance

I have the standard version of this, had it from release and to be honest I haven’t read it all that much!

What i have read i have thoroughly enjoyed though.

I wonder what authors think of editions like the one for sale? I imagine most authors write books hoping for them to be read. But these kind of editions - white gloves and all - can't really be read. They're just to show off to your chums over champagne and canapes aren't they? Or do the authors just think "well that's a few more quid in the bank for me"?

Had mine from new too and probably read it cover to cover twice in 20 years. Great book, really explains Murray's thinking and concept well.

£2k bid currently - that’s above my budget!
Surely the publisher can reprint the standard one again? The one that used to be £40 or so

A couple of the 59 Le Mans versions sold on Ebay a few years ago, each for a multiple of the £2k current high bid.
Original price IIRC was around £650 and McLaren had trouble shifting the last few of them - rather like what happened with the F1 itself.

Ah thank you flemke that it interesting. I thought these 59 might end up in (or be offered as first refusal) to owners (like yourself :-) but then again there is an ‘owners edition’ of this book too which I read is 100 copies (out of the same original 1000) which had a Connolly leather cover.
Which copies do you have?!

I never had the chance to get the Owner's Edition version for my car - I guess it's out there somewhere. My first interaction with McLaren, the year before I bought the car, was buying one of the normal LEs in 2000. I then bought a bunch of the standard editions, especially when I walked into the WH Smiths at Warwick Services one day and they had a big stack of them for sale for, IIRC, £10 each. When the LM edition came out in maybe 2007 or '08, I bought a bunch of them as gifts and kept a few myself. As I think I indicated above, I was surprised that it took them as long as it did to sell the last of the 59 units, but that always felt like it was going to become a collector's item eventually.

When I lived in Hampshire, the library service had the standard version, not in the best condition, but i wondered how much they would charge if i 'lost' it.

Another interesting story flemke thanks, can’t believe they got down to £10 each! Like when bookstores try to get rid of the latest cookbook that has flopped!
I guess we now know what the LM version of the book is worth, it went for ~£3500.
I kind of thought mclaren might do some kind of 25th anniversary of the Le Mans win book last year, maybe if it was on the drawing board it got shelved.

Hi All,

I have a copy of DA Le Mans Ed. for sale at the moment.

I am NOT the Richard that sold this copy through Collecting Cars.

The original price was £850 including a tour of the McLaren TC with Henry. It may have been discounted after.

I have previously agreed a sale with a known collector however when I investigated the actual worth of the book (and as demonstrated by this auction result £3,488 + 5%), I walked away from the sale. I will not be dealing with that collector again.

My book is pristine with all items present, exactly as the one auctioned however it comes with our visitor passes and my original McLaren receipt. It is here in the NW UK.

Please DM with email if genuinely interested and I will send pics.

Cheers,

Rick

Hello all,

I'm new with PH but have been an AF member for 12 years. I've been collecting F1 for 17 years. I'm looking for either the limited edition of driving ambition or the Lemans edition version of it. The LE is my preference but will accept the non LE version in the meantime. If anyone or anyone you know has a copy please contact me. I'm a serious collector with offers the book deserves.

Regards,
Mike
