If you have a 570, I would like to give you the heads-up to look out for possible cracks in the door hinges!

My 3 year old 570S Spider has just been in for a service and warranty extension inspection, and I asked the McLaren main dealer to check the doors as they seemed to be opening very slowly. I assumed it was the gas struts that open the doors, but turns out both nearside and offside door hinges have hairline cracks in them. The opening slowly bit was probably nothing to do with it.

Credit where credits due... The eagle-eyed McLaren Technician spotted it and they were straight on to replacing under warranty.

I don't know if this is just my car or a wider problem, but if you have a 570, it may be worth getting your hinges checked, when your car is next in for service.

Anyone else had the same problem?

Strange one, but a good spot. I don't think I've heard of that one before

This is disappointing, I thought I had ticked all the Mclaren faults on my 570S Spider..

Noise from axle - tick, had to be returned to dealer less than a day after buying it new..

Corrosion? Tick... 4 different panels

Roof mechanism noisy when driving - Tick... 4 or 5 different visits, each time receiving the same ‘fix’ and strangely enough doing the same thing generates the same result..

Key not found in vehicle - tick... frequently..

Windows dropping randomly - tick... often

Seats needing replaced - tick... due to the above and rain..

Awful customer service - tick....

Gave up and sold it back to them. Great cars when they don’t have faults.... dealer experience awful.

Such a shame. Don’t buy RX68CBO unless you’re into the sort of pain that only Max Mosley would enjoy..

To paraphrase... The two happiest days of owning my Mclaren were the day I bought it and the day I sold it.

I know some people (there must be someone) don’t have issues however my experience was sadly different.

Hope you get the problem sorted buddy. I’d ask them to check for corrosion as well - they would only respray the affected panels and not the whole car “the resprayed panels will be better than new”... I don’t want them better than new, I want them all to match!

Every time I start to look at Mclaren and especially the 570s I just fall in love with the looks and then I look at the used ones for sale and think that would be nice to have, especially a Spider. But then I read post like this above and think I would be better just sticking to Porsche as they (generally) don't have these issues
I wish Mclaren would sort all these issues out but I fear the rapid rate they introduce new models means they are not fully developed. Shame

Hopefully we will soon here of lots of good stories about Mclaren Ownership and dealer service that will stop the savage depreciation.

It’s a real shame as they look amazing and reaction to them is really positive, however depreciation from new is a nightmare and you just can’t rely on them.

Hopefully they’ll start to consistently build cars better. I won’t be returning to the brand for a very long time.

Be carefull spouting that truth on here, you'll offend the snowflakes.

If you had to write a contradictory ownership summary it would go something along the lines of...

"Awesome awesome cars but good god are they also buckets of st" rofl

How the dealer treats you/fixes issues is key. Number plate makes me think it's an Ascot car ... plenty of stories on here.

Good to have an open and honest review of ownership - for those like me attracted by the relatively low prices of these cars (or at least they were 12 months ago but now seem to have a 15% CAT - Covid added tax) it is a stark reminder that they are cheap for a reason!!

PS Just google the registration - it comes up as for sale at Mclaren London for £112,995. I would always be wary of buying a low miles car as its possibly spent most of its time in a workshop.

It's interesting to hear everyones experience or possibly view of Mac ownership. I have had the 570 for 2 years and (touch-wood!) it hasn't let me down yet and yes, its had some bits done under warranty but Mac New Forest have been pretty good to deal with and haven't quibbled over fixing stuff.

It is frustrating to have stuff go wrong, but I hear the same of most supercars including Ferrari and Lambo's.

I have had consecutive Porsche's for 23 years and daily a 991.2 Turbo S. The Mac and the Turbo could not be more different. I often get asked which I prefer, and it's like trying to choose your favourite child. I love each equally but they (like my kids) are both different.

The 570 is Curaco blue, and with the roof down on a sunny day it is unbelievable. I love it as a "high-days and holiday car" and the attention is gets is so positive. The smile-per-mile factor is massive! But, I wouldn't dream of it as a daily, and it is nowhere as easy to drive fast as the turbo.

Controversial possibly, but the Mac (not in on-paper-performance) is closer to a racing car and the Turbo closer to a road car. The Mac is a fragile flower and the Turbo is a bruiser!

Both have their merits! smile

Same here. Ive owned since new, now 3 year old with 4k miles and told door hinge needs replacing because of a crack. Been at dealership since Feb, was told last week hinge is not estimated for delivery until June. Couldn't be more annoyed, comms from dealership very poor.

Thanks to the OP for flagging up.
Are the same hinges used on GT ?
