I am in the market for a Mclaren 570s but before I bite the bullet I was wondering if any owners had any real world experience of the 540 vs the 570. If so how do the compare in real world day to day and did you find the 570 worth the extra £?

I was too slow off mark missed out on a 540 that went on EBay for £68k last month (66 plate, 8 months warranty) that's now up at a dealer +£10k.

In no rush at all as its just a weekend car (I generally do less than 2k miles a year) and the longer I leave it prices I am sure will soften again in the next 2-4 months (noted a few are up a few £k).

Willing to spend up to £80k for the right car as have a max £85k budget but sensible head on factoring in a service and warranty extension within the next 12 months. Meaning £80k is my actual purchase limit (unless its been serviced in the last month and comes with a full 12 or 24 month warranty).

I’d go for a 570S if it’s a keeper, just more premium exterior wise.

Very little difference to drive. If any.

I've got a 540C but do prefer the palladium splitters on the 570S. I might still get them done on mine at some point.

Personally, I'd get either, that suits your spec best. Colour/options etc. And if you save anything by buying a 540C, then that's extra towards a warranty renewal

If you intend tracking get the 540 with steel brakes they are far better.

And If you want a bit more bhp then just get an ECU flash for about £1,000.

Looks wise then 570s probably has the edge though

I drove both back to back and went for a slightly newer 540c as it was still under new car factory warranty and I didn’t want carbon brakes.

Prices high now, in May I paid a main dealer 82k for an 18 plate 3k car with a very high spec, it’s now done 7k and the specialist who bought it off me for slightly over what I paid in October for it is now selling for 91k....

Thanks all that’s really helpful input.

Yeah noted they are a bit higher currently than they were over summer (typical now that I have the cash read).

I am not too fussed about brakes as won’t be tracked.

You will be better off with the carbon ceramics then. If you aren’t tracking the car, you shouldn’t need to change them during your ownership.

Yes seeing the same. Close to being able to start looking for an upgrade and if prices were like they were 6 months ago I could’ve looked at a 12C or held on a little longer for a 540/570.

Now prices have increased, may have to wait until the world starts turning again and people start spending on holidays or go for the original upgrade path.

What do people think will happen to prices in 2021? As mentioned on the thread, I’ve been tracking the prices this year and they have gone up as the number of them listed on the classfields have come down but this seems to also be a trend for other cars in its class? Should prices stabilise now since the sports series are no longer in production?

Prices have risen in the past few months IMHO due to C19 and people unable to travel so are spending holiday money on other things. I’m the same and my current car has increased in price but so has what I’m after.

Expect/hoping prices will stabilise when other spending opportunities open up in 2021.... I hope.

Difficult to judge as it all upside down this year with prices cheaper in Summer and now moving upwards during Winter as I to have been watching for quite some time. Normally other way around then there's C-19. I jumped in November to by a 12c that was in my eyes the very best out there and so paid accordingly for it and would have regretted missing it. Certainly 12c's have moved upwards and more so the 650's. Then of course differing spec's/warranties have an effect also on an individual car.

Not sure they have been moving up Hatfield had a couple of 540,s for 99k then both became 89k one has gone.. both2019 cars so fair bit of warranty and price before a bit of negotiation. I’d certainly look to pay a bit. more and get a newer car as can then keep for a bit and still sell with warranty.

The 99k ones sat about, I’d personally get a 570gt over either as it’s got the best looks, highest output and steel brakes.

Budget was flexible and the spider has really grown on me so man maths meant I put a £99k offer in on this earlier

https://leeds.mclaren.com/en/pre-owned/2018-mclare...

Not willing to go any higher as 2 owner and the first was the dealer (demo) and due a service in April. It’s a SOR car so hopefully the seller is on here and we can cut out the middle man.

Offer was rejected initially but I am not in a rush at all so interested to see if it sells or starts to come down so will watch it.

A sensible move in my opinion I think a £100k spider is in scope there were a couple earlier in the year, I am waiting patiently for the right colour and spec before I make a move.

Good luck with the bid.

Worth bearing in mind that many highly specced and desirable Macs are never advertised. Many are Often
sold within the Mac Clubs or sourced direct from owners by specialised dealerships or Individuals. But good luck

Yeah I thought that was the case but seems the owners clubs want proof of ownership to join.

If you join the ‘McLaren Owners and Enthusiasts’ FB page (free to join and no proof of ownership required) most of the UK Owners Club membership is on there anyway. Lots of UK based owners.

There’s two main FB groups worth joining:

McLaren Owners & Enthusiasts. Worldwide but lots of UK owners.
McLaren Owners Technical Group. This one is operated by Thorney. It is mostly UK owners and a good source of information.

Cheers for that allergic to Facebook so don’t use but may have to create an account to join.

Worth also bearing in mind that replacement oil seals for the rear gearbox are almost £2500 and there are lots more expensive bits on these cars.

If I was buying privately it would only be on a car thats under warranty and has been recently serviced / inspected.
