Interesting rip-down and explanation of a McLaren engine by Ricky Elder of REPerformance in Swindon UK. I’ve used Ricky to replace a stock 720S exhaust for a Larini system. He knows his onions.

Yes that’s the very same Ricky. Off the back of that fantastic thread of the Gallardo engine rebuild, I decided to pay him a visit to talk about doing a rebuild of my f355 heads. I would urge anyone to go visit Ricky, he is fair, knowledgeable beyond and a really good guy.

I now call him the “engine whisperer”....

I have known Ricky for over years as he used to look after my Supercharged Audi R8 (V8 Manual).

He used to be the UK's no1 R8 tech for Audi themselves and he was involved in the V10 R8 TV Advert (White V10 S-Tronic car on the dyno with the rear bumper removed, spitting flames out) and the build of the World Record Skoda Octavia VRS land speed record car that ran at Bonneville Salt Flats a few years ago.

Ricky has forgot more about supercars (R8 and Gallardo/Huracan in particular) than most claimed specialists actually know - top top bloke!

Just for info pistons are actually made by Asso now and the VCT solenoid comes from Schaeffler as far as I'm aware. Interesting video though

Is there anyone else in the UK that does McLaren tuning/mods to the same level as RE Performance for the R8 / Lambo? I’ve visited his place a few times and is always stacked out with R8’s and Lambo’s with the occasional Fez and Mac.

Would be good to see if he will go down the route of McLaren servicing and maintenance.

I've been using Ricky for the last 4 years to service my R8 despite it being a 200 mile round trip, wouldn't go anywhere else.

He openly said he wants a 570 in one of his recent videos so I'd be amazed if McLaren work isn't part of his future plans - it would be a little odd not doing so when hooking up with people who are supplying him with Mac engine parts.
