720s are flipping quick
Discussion
Just been watching a few YT vids from the states and some of these 720's are just bonkers quick with just some downpipes and a tune.
Obviously over in the states drag strips are something that they are a little obsessed with. Underground racing being fairly dominant and the Lamborghini platform the go to car.
Looks like Mclaren have and is upsetting many Lambo owners who have spent well in excess off 6 figure sums boosting there cars only to be matched by a Mclaren with a simple remap!
Its also a testament to how strong the Mclaren Engines and transmissions as the Americans keep pushing them!
One guy is doing 60-130 runs (has done 1000's of them) on a remapped 720 and getting 3.8s! to put that in perspective a Chiron does it in 4.8
People are always quick to criticise Mclarens reliability but those Engines seem bullet proof!!

- disclaimer - I am not excited by the drag races in anyway just a little fascinated by the speeds and tuning. Much prefer trackdays over dragstrips!
If you look at Dragtimes videos, you need to spend a hell of a lot of money to come close to the Mclaren in a straight line.

Can you imagine if only they had maybe spent a wee bit longer ensuring they were screwed together right and again spent a wee bit longer during testing prior to launch?
Its still a total game changer 3 years later but tarnished because of issues.
I still don't think Lambo or Ferrari are anywhere near catching up yet...

This is true after all they are a British Supercar company that has only in recent years set up factory to mass produce these cars. The lack of finesse in some areas is surely to be expected. It certainly wouldn’t put me off if I was in a such a fortunate position to buy one. Its still a total game changer 3 years later but tarnished because of issues.

That 765lt is going to be incredible

Big own goal by McLaren.
If you get a good car and go on the internet to see all the bad press you just wouldn't believe it as the cars themselves (when they work) are fantastic and industry leading.
A decent QC process would solve a lot as well as reducing volumes but more than that as far as I can see Its everything else that Mclaren do that is poor, ie customer services, dealer network, marketing and used car re marketing.
Looking at it from my perspective buy a used car that's been driven and had any niggles/issues sorted under warranty and you have bagged a supercar bargain

Got an ex Mclaren test car (was on all the press vids) that they've sold on. My thinking is it was likely well sorted before the factory moved it on, the spec is good and its a decent punt at getting one that works. The car itself is astounding to drive. I'll report back transparently on my ownership experience.

I thought I had an allocation for a 992 Turbo S but it didn't pan out. This was the less sensible alternative
Quite excited though!

I have a couple of mates with McLaren's who rate them highly and been lucky to have no issues over the last 18 months. Their raving on about them has spiked my interest in all things McLaren for 6 months now but in particular a used 675LT spider

Are you the member who bought the 720 at a great price to start with?? Congrats on the spider! you may need to put bigger turbos on with all that extra weight
