The story made the Metro paper.
I know that stretch of road and just don't understand how he got it so wrong, the road is well lit, 40 mph, and straight.
The brick wall was only rebuilt last year.

Yes there were mentions in the FB comments about the wall being rebuilt. I don't do that road more than a few times a year, so I can't say I'd noticed it damaged previously.

As for how it happened - powerful car and lack of experience can be a dangerous mix. Especially if showing off to girlfriend. However on more than one occasion I've known the Thorpe Park roundabout to be incredibly slippery presumably due to spilled diesel. Perhaps diesel on road plus sudden burst of throttle caused an uncontrollable slide.

You dont drive a powerful car, so how can you comment about that? The guy or girl could have been on there own and someone pulled out on them? Just because its a sports car doesnt mean they were driving like a cock??

You may not consider my car powerful, but many people would. And it has plenty enough power to get an inexperienced driver into trouble fast. I've also driven cars much more powerful than the ones I own, including ones with a variety of animals on their badges. That's how.

Quite. I had a taxi driver pull out of a side road as I was about the pass them at 50mph. People arriving at the scene of the ensuing accident assumed that because I was driving a sports car, I must have been at fault. The police investigation proved otherwise. In the case of this Maclaren driver, I never claimed he was driving like a cock. As I clearly noted, that road is sometimes contaminated with diesel, although I haven't seen that at the crash site. The police have also inferred that it was a single vehicle accident.

No need to defend what you said Lunar, that was unnecessarily touchy from PH66. It’s why threads go down the pan so Quickly on here.

I've got a small piece of blue plastic collected from just up the road on the Chertsey island. It came off a blue Bugatti Veyron that had been crashed there a couple of years back.

Story I'd heard was that it had been delivered that day and the owners younger brother thought he'd take it for a quick spin before his 'bro got back from work.

There were lots of bits to choose from ............

I find it unbelievable that we give 650PS potential lethal weapons to people who lack high performance experience. Fine they have TC and DSG but two rubber contact patches 305 section trying to put down all that 650PS with a bit of coolant, diesel, standing water etc = disaster. Insurance pay out probably a blessing in disguise and hopefully nothing but their feelings hurt.

I dont think your quote is very fair to me to be honest, i dont think its very fair at all on the person driving that car to say they are at fault when you dont know all the facts!! And unlike the OP has driven a few super cars, i actually own a 650s so with that in mind i think i have a better idea!!

Perhaps a little unfair to comment about the drivers experience or lack of. We don't know what happened. Many years ago, I spun my Boxster on a roundabout at a fairly average speed. It was instant and I was just a passenger, thankfully it was in the dead of night and nobody else was around. I guessed it was a diesel spillage but any onlooker might have thought, 'maniac in a sports car!'

Plenty of people who actually own powerful cars do cock it up, its quite simple to do. Heavy right foot, changing down to early, getting a wheel on a damp whiteline or manhole cover, etc. Plenty of vids on Youtube of people demonstrating how tho fk it up

However, we have no idea what caused the accident in question

Must say that I'm very surprised to have been jumped on just for a bit of harmless speculation and also suggesting that a diesel spill might have been a factor. But then it was only one poster - everyone else seems quite reasonable. I'm going to assume he was just having a bad day, and not the other things I thought about him after his childish "how would you know" comment.

I thought it was an amusingly ill informed comment, as he obviously checked out your profile but missed the fact you own (and presumably ride) a fast bike... and if anyone understands the connection between throttle and rear tyre, its a biker!

To be fair this it’s quite distasteful to post on someone’s misfortune so not that surprising.

Accidents happen everyday so to pick up and make the effort to post on this one smacks of SPS.

I just hope whoever was involved is okay under the circumstances.

It's not a fast bike by bike standards, but it's still fast by car standards - and yes, smooth throttle and avoiding diesel is key to survival on a bike!

Well said and I couldn’t agree more.

Hilarious how quickly it degenerated into an “I’ve driven faster cars than you” argument though.
