With regards to the title.

I contacted the customer services today about my extended warranty and if they had any considerations about the fact if anything had went wrong with the car, it is currently unable to be looked at.

The advisor was very helpful and stated that they are currently in talks with the underwriters with the view that the existing expiry time shall be extended to include the amount of time that the warranty has been unable to be used due to McLaren service centres being shut.

At around £400 a month for the most expensive plan (when it is broken down) it is a welcome gesture.

My McLaren had been SORN'd for the winter since October and given it is not a shopping car for essential journeys still is.

I spoke to Client Services to ask if the Extended Warranty could potentially be extended FOC given I can't drive the car at the moment (but had planned to from 1st April) and not knowing how long this would go on for, but was told that no consideration would be given to extending the warranty.

That was on the 8th April, so hopefully they are now considering a more pragmatic approach....

Interesting. Is that for all, or just people who haven't been able to extend?

My warranty is due to expire in August so would be handy to know.

I've also tried to use it once every couple of weeks just to keep it moving really. Went to tesco the other day, parked in the middle of a fairly empty car park, and someone parked next to me hehe

'Someone' - it was Steve, the guy with the Tapout T shirt, baseball cap and a big gold chain.

Just for clarity, it was explained to me that when my warranty expires at the end of October, they are looking into adding on the amount of weeks that your nearest McLaren centre was unable to undertake any warranty / maintenance work as they were closed.

In my case, there is only one in Scotland and it has been shut for about 6 weeks.

There is no reason they can charge you for a service they are unable to provide.

Presumably, they’d have to argue that they will provide it, just not immediately.
So you’d have to argue that time is of the essence.
Be interesting to see what, if anything, it says in the T&Cs, though in a retail contract like this any such exclusion may well be held to be unfair.
If I was them, I’d extend the existing contract.

My local Dealers are Leeds and Manchester but both are closed too. I asked them to either extend the warranty by the number of weeks I am unable to drive the car and use the warranty or offer a discount off the renewal but was told at the time a polite but flat - No!

Please let us know the outcome when they come back to you?

It is unlike an insurance policy; if at any point in the last 6 weeks the car was stolen etc, the policy would kick in and do what it says on the tin.

The extended warranty cannot offer that, so for the last 6 weeks it has had no worth, and likewise they have had no payouts as the work cannot be undertaken.

The call handler was very helpful and said that only 2 or 3 service centres were open and it would not be a consideration to transport my car down there, hence why they were currently putting together an extension to compensate.

To extend your existing warranty by the 'lost' weeks shall be cost neutral for them.

Hopefully something shall be set out very shortly.

I’m also in Glasgow, my car is due it’s 3 year service and warranty renewal in July which I would like to be carried out on time if I’m honest, but how long it’s closed for is anyone’s guess

Mine was booked in at Leeds for the Monday after lockdown started for 3 year service and possible work under warranty so watching this thread with interest.
Warranty has to be renewed in June. I was contacted by one of the currently open dealers shortly after lockdown to renew via them but not done that yet as I’m hoping Leeds will be back by then.

Dealers are starting to open up their service centres.

My 570s was originally booked in for it's year 3 service at McManchester on 23rd April which was later cancelled due to Covid, it's now booked in for Wednesday 20th May.

McManchester have been really good, kept me updated with calls and guided me through the warranty extension and MOT position.

Does anyone know when Glasgow will be opening?

I'll phone them sooner to the time I'm due in

Hi Justin.

When i called the warranty line on Monday, they could not offer me a date when it would be re opening...might of been this week but i have not tried.

My fuel cap release decided to be temperamental right at the start of lockdown, so speaking to the advisor he logged it so i shall be getting a call when it can be booked in.

However, as you know with Glasgow, even pre covid days you require to book about 3-4 weeks in advance, so i am anticipating a huge back logue of servicing, repairs and warranty work pushing that time further.

That's when i asked about my warranty having the perhaps 10-12 weeks of them unable to provide the service i am paying for (around £75 a week if you break it down) being added onto the end of when my policy expires in October to which he said that is what they are looking to do.

Any word on the Isle of Man trip? I could not manage the previous arranged dates, but if any spare dates for rescheduled dates i would ensure i would manage...this whole Covid malarkey has made me re-access my whole work / family / play balance.

^Nice one thanks.

I'm pretty sure mine is due late July early August so got a bit of time yet.

The Isle of Man trip as you know was cancelled, and we were all refunded. We had the option to keep the money in and get first refusal of the new dates but who know when that may be. I'll still be keen to get booked up again if it suits my work rota.

I'm actually just keen to get out for a drive anywhere!

Just wondering if you have heard anything back from McLaren on the warranty being extended whilst the Dealers have been closed for the past 9 weeks?

I see the Parks sites (Leeds and Glasgow) have re-opened today

Had a call from McLaren Leeds today as my car should've been in shortly after lock down.

Unfortunately they knew nothing about the warranty being extended but will check and phone me back (might not be this week). I'll post on here when I get anything.

Sales aren't open yet but they're looking at June by appointment only.

I sent an email on Monday looking for clarification on what was indicated during my call to the warranty centre on the 4th May...no response as of yet.

With regards to the extended warranty, including back logue for being looked at to the period of lockdown, it looks as though around 12-14 weeks that it was unfit for the purpose it was purchased...not an inconsiderable amount.

Hopefully they shall extend it by the amount of weeks they had no exposure.

It's certainly not an inconsiderable amount, a lapsed policy on a 12C works out at £103.84 per week! eek

All of us who have purchased these warranty policies should have them extended accordingly, given the underwriters (Car Care Plan) will not have had any financial exposure during the period. I would like to think that McLaren will take a pragmatic approach and do the right thing....

Is there not a Mclaren dealer in Hamilton? Or are the sales only
