Hunter Road Force recommendation

Evening all,
Having finally joined the McLaren family with the purchase of a mint high spec Volcano Orange 650S Coupe and what astoundingly great cars these are I'm loving it madly! However, I have encountered a slight steering wheel judder at pretty high speed which I'm keen to try and eliminate.
After much research involving both forum contributors and phone calls to Alistair Bols and John Thorney, it became apparent that it's not uncommon for both 650S' and 12C's to suffer from this. I also found that several owners state-side had solved this issue by taking their cars to have the wheels balanced on a Hunter Road Force rig, a seemingly great piece of kit with much evidence of owners of all manner of other marques having their vibration woes cured in this way too.
I am based near Cambridge and have found tyre shops in Hertford, Ipswich, Peterborough and Chingford which have the Road Force kit, so my question is this;
Has anyone on here gone down this route and if so can they recommend somewhere with the kit (or even if you've had a similar problem cured in some other way?) capable of attending to a Mac i.e that understands how crucial it is to jack the car in the correct locations using the correct tools and taking great care into the bargain, as a damaged carbon tub means a written off car and I'd clearly rather put up with a little vibration than that :-(

Great thanks for this, just checked their website and they do indeed have a Hunter setup. I'm down in Herts tomorrow so could pop in and see them on the way home

I had some steering wheel vibration at ~100mph (private road obviously.....) - but since my tyres were low, I just replaced them. I'm pretty sure the balancing then wasn't on anything fancy (tyres were replaced at Costco) but the new tyres / re-balance solved my problem.
(ETA : The jacking isn't exactly rocket science - just make sure they look for the green circle)

Re 'on the studs' - I was planning to ask that question after reading about the problems with simply attaching a wheel on a central spindle, although the main problems used to occur when using the 'cone' shaped efforts rather than the central hub the Hunter machine uses, if what I'm hearing is correct

I had exactly this issue with the OEM MC1 PZero's. They come with foam inserts, pieces of which can come loose. If you have these, even the best balance will only last till the next time some foam breaks loose. Completely eliminated in my case with PS4S's.

I have also wondered if it may be tyres, especially as the car is such a low miler and so must have spent a fair bit of time simply sitting on its tyres rather than driving on them but as it has 6mm all round I figured a precise balance would be the logical first step(ETA : The jacking isn't exactly rocket science - just make sure they look for the green circle)

Very interesting to hear your issues with the PZeros, I am a PS4S advocate and was thinking of changing to them when tyres are due, having already recommended to a friend with a 570 to do the same who said it was night and day and he'd never go back.
I think perhaps the way forward is balance first and then if the problem persists or returns, go down the PS4S route a whole lot sooner than planned

It would make sense that the tyres are the culprits as I know how carefully this car has been treated by it's 1 and only totally OCD previous owner (I mean this in the nicest possible way, he's a top bloke who cares about his cars more than anyone that's gone before ) and am prepared that I may have to replace them very soon, it's just that with 6mm left on all tyres I'd like to get some use out of them before I bin emYou’re going to hate me - but I was in the same situation. And then I made the best upgrade for the car for road driving. Got the Ps4s’s. No vibration - just wet traction!

I'm almost resigned to fitting PS4S' anyway and I'll only be delaying the inevitable while trying to get some use out of the current set, I mean PS4S' are my favourite tyres and have the added bonus of even being indecently good at low operating temperatures, not something you could level at the P ZerosEdited by 12pack on Tuesday 18th February 17:17

I hope you're right, I've a set of PS4s ready to go on mine Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
