I am really thinking about purchasing a 570GT.

I have looked at a few a dealers, had a couple of test drives and been watching the market for a few months now.

A 2017 car with 1 year left on the warranty seems a good idea to me.

The only thing stopping me is that I don't mind spending £100K but what on earth are these cars now worth in the trade??

And if I bought a 2017 570GT for £95-105K and sold it back the next day I am not sure I would get £75K for it?

So keeping for a year may become ridiculous?

I have had a number of cars TVR, Lotus, Alfa, Porsche and have a massive itch to do it but taking a £25-30K hit on a second hand McLaren as soon as you leave the dealership may take me out of the car game for a while.

I know it is worth it as the cars are great but is it worth waiting for some sort of stability in the market or will they just keep falling off a cliff?

Trend predicts that they will continue to depreciate, but how far is anyones guess. Life also depreciates, so just buy, don't worry, and enjoy it.

I am also looking at 570GT and have had similar thoughts , however if we are always concerned about depreciation there are lots of cars that we would never buy surely ?

If you look at the original cost of the average 570 2 years ago its circa £180 with the options ?

Forward to now and £90-£95 means it’s done nearly 50% in depreciation

Compare this to the MP4 as a 5 year old example they are still roughly £70k so if the trend follows with the 570 it should be still that kind of money in 3 years because the market hasn’t been kind to these cars and lets face it I can’t see them being sold for 50k as they are too good for that to happen surely ?

Compare to an R8 that is nowhere near as rare or desirable and they are still making circa £80k as a 65 plate so the curve should really be slowing down now ?

Keep me posted as to how you get on and we can swap notes on our experience and hopefully driving experience which is what these cars are about surely ?

the reality is that if you are the market today for any supercar with the idea of owning it for 1 year, you will take a big hit. If you go into the purchase knowing that you will be holding on for a few years (read 3+) then the depreciation becomes much more manageable.

I am sure I would keep it for more than a year but definitely not three years. It's nice to change cars and I like buying and selling/trading etc and getting a good deal. But I honestly think the trade will shaft the 570 market and I could see these things being traded for £60K in a years time. It may be come clearer in the New year but I am struggling to wait that long.
If I can pick up a 570GT for £85K with warranty in the new year I think I'll go for it.

i,m looking for advice and pleased i found this thread, i,m looking at a 570s very low milage and about a year old, in two years what will be its value ?
as 2-3 year old cars now with circa 10k miles are north of £100k if mines (if i buy it) worth that in another 2 years its a done deal for me very tempting but a bit of a gamble.....

I am not sure the price these cars are advertised at in the dealers represents their real trading value which is the main reason I have not bitten the bullet yet and purchased.

I'm also looking at 570GTs, and have a question for existing owners regarding the panoramic sunroof. What is the interior of the car like on hot sunny days? I have visions of it being a bit like a greenhouse! With this in mind, would I be better off looking for one that has the MSO electrochromic sunroof option?

Cars listed at 100k with dealers at the moment would have been bid between 85-90k by same dealers if it was part ex at best, I might even be a little high with that given current mkt conditions especially with Mclaren. I've been watching the mkt in the 570s these last few months as I'm also an interested party many cars at the 100k level (2-3 yo cars) have been hanging around for months but surprisingly not many dealers are making significant price drops...some have and find their level between 90-95k. I put in a bid of 96k on 17 plate 570s track pack a month back it was listed for 105k with a Mcl dealer...best dealer could get to was 100k so thought I'd wait him out but car has since gone off the mkt so assume it was sold.

Dealers are sitting on far too much stock at the wrong time of the year - excellent deals to be had currently, especially on pre-reg cars smile

Plus the market is so flat - dealers need to move the cars on.

Agreed! Most of the cars I have been looking at are 19 reg and possibly ex-demo. I'm not in a position to negotiate yet (due to a pending property sale), but what sort of discounts are to be expected at this time of year?

"Its better to be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful" - Warren Buffet

A resolution (either way) to Brexit, some spring sunshine & a new year could see some improvement.

Personally, I think the cars are (mostly) good ...... It's the current state of mind of the potential buyers that's driving prices down.

I don't see a rebound mind, just a potential reduction in depreciation rates (which will have to come before the seller starts paying the buyer to take the car away if current rates continue)

I picked mine up in July and we have had a few hot days since then and it's never an issue...opening the door releases a lot of heat anyway and given it's a true 2 seater, there isnt much air in there to cool so 2 mins with the windows open and it's perfect

Anyone know the score with the trackday warranty I believe the McLaren warranty is ok if you have a pre track inspection ?, that could be a bit awkward at times do they mean the day before or 6 months before ?, and how would they know does the ecu log like a lotus does ?,
Cheers

Sounds good! I was actually wondering whether you end up with a toasted head, or does the standard roof block out most of the sunlight? Most cars with sunroofs have a blind that you can use to limit the light, but not the 570GT (unless you go for the electrochromatic option).
