Is the spider worth the extra over a coupe do you think?
All personal taste I guess, but I didn't even consider coupe when I bought my 650. Hard top convertible doesn't have too many disadvantages, especially since they have no structural disadvantage. Plus even with the roof up, the rear window can be put down (I assume the 570 can do that too?).Think a spider is probably slightly easier to sell when the time comes too.

Spiders / convertibles were always a compromise from the coupes in the past...from F355's, 911's, 458's right down to the likes of M3's...scuttle shake diminished the overall capabilities. With the carbon tubs fitted to every McLaren, i personally see no reason why you choose a coupe over a spider...no loss whatsover in rigidity or ride quality.
Even if you get the roof down once a year its a win.
Its not just about sunny days...driving about in the dark with the roof down with just the stars above is a fantastic experience.
Definitely worth any premium in cost.
When a drove a 570S Spider last year, demo car, it was a festival of rattles coming from the roof. We even stopped to make sure roof was closed, but didn't help.
Think if you were the salesman that day, and I was a potential customer....not great.
Glad I don't like Spider.
There are anyway more parts, seals, mechanisms so really get it only if you use it. Coupe is simpler, lighter as well I guess.

My roof doesn't rattle at all.
The mechanism doesn't worry me at all - if it breaks, McLaren will fix it.
I like the defensiveness towards McLaren that you are already building in a short time. The mechanism doesn't worry me at all - if it breaks, McLaren will fix it.
I bought a 570S back in April and I've had one real bad issue and a couple of other relatively minor issues that really should of seen me reject the car but the cars get under your skin as they're that bloody good and you end up becoming very defensive of a company that really doesn't deserve it.

I don't think I'm being defensive. It's a fact that my roof doesn't rattle. I don't like the cost of the warranty - but, it means I don't worry about stuff breaking because it would get fixed at no cost to me.I bought a 570S back in April and I've had one real bad issue and a couple of other relatively minor issues that really should of seen me reject the car but the cars get under your skin as they're that bloody good and you end up becoming very defensive of a company that really doesn't deserve it.

To be fair, my roof is seldom up, but on the odd occasion its up it doesn't rattle, make funny noses or leak either. The mechanism doesn't worry me at all - if it breaks, McLaren will fix it.
It also seems to operate at a decent bit beyond the 18mph i thought it was supposed to stop.

My comment was lighthearted but it’s great to read your write ups. Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
