12C owners, idle question
Discussion
I have recently purchased a 12C from McLaren so I have peace of mind with their warranty. One thing I have noticed with the car that after a drive and I pull up and put the car in neutral the idle drops from around 900rpm to around 500rpm and a lot of things then start to vibrate. Interestingly if I then put the car in drive or reverse the revs immediately rise back to 900rom, also if I switch on the front screen heating or air con the revs also climb from 500 to 900rpm. Turn everything off and back into neutral and back to 500rpm and numerous rattles.
The car has already been back to Ascot once to have a couple of issues sorted and I asked them to check this idle issue out and was told "they all do that" but I'm afraid I don't believe it.
So what are other 12C owners experiences, do your cars do the same? For the record mine is a 28,000 mile 2014 car.

My 650 does exactly the same. Sometimes it's worse than others - almost sounds like it's going to stall sometimes.
I keep forgetting to mention it so curious whether it's just yours and mine, or whether they really do all do it. It doesn't seem right I must admit.
(My 650 has 8k miles now but has done it since I bought it with 7k miles)

My 12c goes as follows
Push button (Timed crank is set "on" in the menu), Revs to 1200 for about 3 secs, settles to 900, that's it - just stays there solid @ 900
I'd suggest this is how they are supposed to be.
If not, I'd check battery fully charged, make sure car has been driven recently (Give it an "Italian tune up" ?!) check menu "timed crank" setting, run a tank of Vpower through (clean injectors). Not very scientific, just eliminating the easy stuff.
If none of this works I'd suggest an OBD read or a visit to Thorney or MCL main dealer

I think that's different. Push button (Timed crank is set "on" in the menu), Revs to 1200 for about 3 secs, settles to 900, that's it - just stays there solid @ 900

Starting the car always seems fine. But when it's warmed up, switching from D to N seems to cause the revs to drop.
As I said, mine seems to do it less than it did when I first got it a month ago - they do still drop, but not as significantly.

My initial comments were based on start up and initial idle in neutral but with aircon etc on. Starting the car always seems fine. But when it's warmed up, switching from D to N seems to cause the revs to drop.

When I put my car into gear it does change RPM momentarily until the electronics kick in & adjust. After this RPM stabilizes again - I'd have to confess not having noted at what level it idles in gear.
Another observation is that the "creep" when in gear is fairly aggressive - you can easily get caught out moving forward or backward if you relax at all on the brake pedal.

Mine seems to depend on what kind of mood it's in - sometimes it is fairly aggressive, sometimes it sits there like I'm in neutral!Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
