I'm placing my order for a 570S in August, currently a four month delivery time on bespoke orders so likely a 17 reg car.

Just wondering if any PH'ers are tracking their 570's and how they specced up their cars?

Without knowing all the options list my spec at present looks something like:

McLaren Orange, black wheels, bog standard exterior (don't need fancy carbon for a track day car)
Standard ceramic brakes
Black stealth exhaust
Full alcantera interior, orange stitching
Alcantera steering wheel
Bucket racing seats
Carbon interior pack
Standard stereo
Is satnav standard? I need to find the circuits lol smile

I think that's all I need, trying to keep the price below £150k if possible because it's a cash purchase.

You do know if you track your McLaren without having pre and post track day checks by McLaren you will invalidate your warranty? However the checks are included at Pure McLaren events, otherwise the checks are £300 each, plus time plus waiting for a dealer to have the time to do it.

Otherwise spec sounds lovely, be careful with contrasting stitching to the dash, it will reflect on the windscreen and will drive you nuts! you can wear your polarizing raybans to reduce the effect but then you wont be able to see the iris screen......

Thanks for the 540C pricing, although I'd say they are likely pricier than the equivalents for the 570S so they can shave £20k off the 540C base price.

I had no idea that tracking a 570S would invalidate the warranty without doing £600 worth of checks, that's a bit pants! My Porsche 981 GTS has no such restriction.

I'll have to research the Pure McLaren trackdays then.

Is that correct? I'm only asking as looking at the 570S & have mentioned the car would do several track days a year & no mention has been made of these pre/post checks. Not sure i'm prepared to pay £3k a year on top of servicing & consumables just to have someone look at the car & go yes all's fine.

It is the case with the 12C / 650S / 675LT. If you do a Pure McLaren day its included but they are £845+vat in the uk. You need to get your dealer to confirm as there has been a lot of talk about this in the owners forum recently and it hasn't changed, in fact I got an email from McLaren yesterday confirming this is still the case.

Thanks, i'll drop McL Manchester an email tomorrow. That could alter the decision process somewhat if correct.

I didn't realise till after had bought mine, so just 1 or 2 track days a year:-( Plenty in the owners forum do lots of track days but I guess they pay the money or don't too much care about the warranty. I know one chap had his brake discs taken off and weighed at the inspection so its very thorough!

Do let us know how you get on with Manchester.

I'm sure you are aware but one of the differences between 540 v 570 is that 570 has ceramics as std and a few other bits that I can't remember, think most of the options like the carbon race seats are same money.

Ok thanks, so with the ceramic brakes being £8,000 you're paying an extra 12k or so for the extra 52bhp. Prices are closer than we think, then.

BTW I assume satnav is standard?

Have a 540C due for delivery in May, those options are the same price 540/570S. Nav is standard.

Yes I'm afraid I was advised of the pre- and post- trackday checks from Mac Birmingham too. frown

Regarding track checks, just go and talk to the head service manager and point out the reasonable-ness of doing the things to the letter. It's a daft requirement. I never did the pre track check given I pointed out that one could potentially fk up the car in any number of miles between that check and actually getting to say Spa. Would do a post check every couple of trackdays if quite close together and it was not an issue.

Being reasonable and open with what you are doing with the car and showing you do know what you are doing maintenance wise will help imo.

I tried this but they are very strict. Problem is someone posted a video on youtube of flames coming from their exhaust and McLaren didn't like that and then added all sorts of clauses to the warranty. I believe the warranty is from a 3rd party anyway so the dealer will not be able to change the requirements and if they say they can I would be very suspicious unless you get it in writing.

They did say you can obviously tie in a check with a service, or get a couple in between the checks. However from what I have been told it is not a good idea to go on a 'normal' track day with a McLaren due to the differences in speed between a McLaren and other cars (only repeating what I have been told). Also on the Pure McLaren events you get coached by really good drivers like Bruno Senna, who was at the last event in Spa a couple of weeks ago....

Well, all I can speak for is personal experience having had the car for 4 years and going to plenty of non Mclaren trackdays. Again as I said, the service heads at Manchester and Ascot I personally know have been very reasonable about the whole thing if you have been good on the maintenance front. The manufacturer warranty within 3 years is not 3rd party which is what the OP is asking about. The extended warranty is 3rd party but there is no track cover on the extended one outside of official Mclaren events whether the checks are done or not.

The pure mclaren events are very good though i agree and I strongly encourage any owner to give at least one a try. they are pretty pricey for what they are though and personally i get more out of getting on track more often and have really only went to the last few because of friends whom I've met there over the years.

I have a 4 year old 12C so I will have the 3rd party warranty and that would have been the info I got. I didn't realise the new cars had a manufacturer warranty. I guess then it is all by negotiation. I will have to contact my dealer and see what they can do.....

Cheers

On the 3rd party warranty, I wouldn't even bother with any sort of the track checks. My car goes in every few trackdays for an oil change anyway as I'm a bit of a maintenance obsessive especially with a high powered turbo engine so I usually get the car effectively checked over at the same time anyway.

I'm the OP and I was referring to tracking a newly purchased 570S under manufacturer's warranty. If you're saying I should establish a good rapport with the Ascot service manager and keep to the maintenance schedule then that's a natural and logical thing to do. My mind is eased somewhat smile
