09/03/2016: Ok folks, it's time to actually pay up & book your place so that Pete can confirm with the hotel how many guests to expect. Please call him on 01453 731756 and do the necessary.

Ta!

UPDATE 02/03/16: Looks like we have enough interested drivers to make the Wales tour happen! We have 21 on the list, and we only need 12 to make it viable. Please go to the Petrolhead Tours "McLarens in Wales" page in the link, call Pete on 01453 731756, and book your place!

Just gauging interest for now, but who'd be up for a long weekend tour of Wales, Friday 15th July to Sunday 17th July (I've binned the original idea of an October weekend, no-one liked it!)

A dozen or so of us had a great run down to Goodwood on Sunday morning as the first event for the McLaren Owners UK Facebook group, and this would be a longer version of that! I've done a few tours with Pete from PetrolHead Tours which have all been excellent - great fun, superb routes & with everything arranged extremely efficiently including loans of walkie-talkies & pre-programmed satnavs, so I've asked him to set something up for us, link here:

http://petrolhead.tours/tours/uk/mclarens-in-wales...

If it's of interest, even tentatively, please put your name down here, and if we get to maybe a dozen or so, we can move it on to the next stage.

Jesus Andy, why the end of October ????
May - September (negotiable) is UK summer

I know, but Pete's already on tour elsewhere for much of that time, except for some July/August weekends which would then clash with school holidays when the traffic will be much worse and prospective drivers here will likely be on holiday themselves.

Still, if summer dates are preferable, nothing's cast in stone. If everyone would rather do a summer weekend, I'm sure it can be set up!

Perhaps a July date (before the school holidays) would be preferable?

Cheers Pete!

Ok, how about an alternative weekend - Friday 15th July to Sunday 17th July?

Just you are more likely to get a better response in the finer weather, I am happy to support all of these events but not in conditions like we had Sunday.
Anything bar last week of July and all of August for school hols avoidance.
Personally - May (bar Monaco at end) / June / July all good.

Will start another thread as promised but anyone up for this Le Touquet / Camay weekend ?

Well I missed out on Goodwood but don't intend to miss this. I would be up for either date but would prefer July

Ok, July it is! I've removed the October heading so newcomers to the thread aren't confused, sorry if it makes your posts look like non sequiturs tongue out

This has all the hallmarks of being a great meet/drive/weekend for the ever expanding McCrew. With some decent weather, it should be brilliant.

I'd love to bring a mate along, but he'd want exclusive weekend hire of a McLaren for the alleged passenger supplement.

I'm happy to pay a sensible fee for someone to organise it, but (without sounding like a tight a*sed bugger) I think there is gulf of difference between the hotels published rates and this trip's to justify its value for me to go along at the moment.

Address this and the single room supplement issue and I think you may be better subscribed. Just my thoughts! irked

I can understand your concerns, but please allow me to clarify.

What you are paying for is a room for 2 nights, breakfast for 2 mornings, and a 3 course evening meal.
What you are also paying for are the services of two tour managers, who;
- supply pre-programmed satnavs with up-to-date maps of an extremely well researched route (and carry spares)
- supply fully charged and licensed walkie talkies (and carry spares)
- plan for lunch stops and fuel stops and incorporate these into the satnav routes
- supply a route book (for you to keep) with maps, contact numbers, useful information and a list of the cars and drivers taking part
- will lead the tour, at a pace which is appropriate for the conditions, and deal with any unforeseen issues (like road closures)
- will chase the tour so that no one gets left behind, for example if they have a breakdown or a puncture... and if necessary come and find you if you get lost.

No doubt there are some who are quite happy to spend the money buying the appropriate equipment themselves, and have the time to spend researching all the roads, hotels, lunch stops, fuel stops, etc.

For those who have better things to do with their time, and understand that doing something like this well requires some considerable experience and expertise, they will undoubtedly see the value...
