Thoughts On The 570S??
Discussion
I was pretty much set on my next car being a 991 Gen II Turbo S, but thought it best to at least check out alternatives in the price bracket & i've been drawn to the 570S.
My initial thoughts were it looks good but won't have the same Sports Car appeal as the Turbo S, however after several views of Harris's 570S review & his direct comparison to the Turbo S it's really got me thinking.
I've a test drive booked for next week, but given i'd never even considered a McLaren as an option, i really could do with some info on the ownership experience (McLaren in general), indicative running costs, ideally against a Turbo S & are their any owners here who can offer up their thoughts on the car?
Thanks in advance.

..... a 570s (decent spec) will cost between £160k and £170K, a 1 year old (gen 1) 991 Turbo S can be had for £125k.....they are in different price leagues.
McLarens are a hand built supercar, and no doubt well built and reliable etc however they are not a huge volume, robot constructed, finely tuned (over 40+ years) machine (which is what the 991 TT S is)
Turn up at a super car meet in a Turbo s and you will feel slightly short changed
Try and park a 570s in multi story car park and you will be ....trapped
I imagine performance is relatively equal - although on most days and roads the 991 will be faster
It will also be much cheaper to own and maintain (assuming deprecation is sensible)
Known faults with McLarens
Iris 1 was pants (now sorted)
headlights on 12c suffered from condensation (not sure if its resolved on later cars)
some gearboxes suffered leaks (new gearbox job)
doors require a big slam to shut (not sure if addressed on 570s..but soft closure is now available)

Interesting how different people perceive things. As far as sports car appeal goes, for me the 570S trumps the Turbo S.The 570 looks like a cracking car. On Mclife there seems to be plenty of buyers waiting for theirs to arrive. Vins being quoted are over the 1,000 mark.
One thing that doesn't get mentioned often is the weight - or lack of it. 1300KGs or there abouts. Which should make it a different driving experience to its competitors. Namely the 911 Turbo S which tips the scales at over 1600KGs.
If it had rear seats it would sell even more.

There I was thinking it was only me that talked out of my arse and got everything wrong.
570S or 991 ? Depends what YOU want from a top end sports/supercar.
Personally I don't want rear seats and mass produced German practicality so for me it would definitely be the McLaren but that said at £180k I would be looking at a nearly new 650S spider TBH
570S is a cracking car no question but a 650S is so much more a supercar and if you buy right will hold its value far better IMHO
Therefore your only issue now versus a new 570S is finding a low mileage 650S spider to the specification of your liking which is always a compromise on a used car unless you are extremely lucky or not too fussy.
650S stock will start to dry up until some LT owners maybe off load theirs

As another poster mentioned I don't think many 570's have been delivered yet, I was quoted December but my car doesn't arrive until next week for March delivery. I'm afraid I can't shed any light on how they drive as I chose not to test drive and wait for my own vehicle. My initial thoughts were it looks good but won't have the same Sports Car appeal as the Turbo S, however after several views of Harris's 570S review & his direct comparison to the Turbo S it's really got me thinking.

I've been running a 991 turbo as a daily for the past 2 years and 22k miles and it is very useable as well as stupidly quick especially at this time of year withe the 4wd. My only criticisms are the ride can be a little jiggly and the lack of multifunction steering wheel with paddles (now sorted for the 991.2)
I don't expect the 570 to be as practical as the turbo but I think it will feel more special and hopefully ride a bit better. In my view the downside of using a 570 as a daily is that it looks like a supercar and you will not go unnoticed (I like that the turbo blends in). I think if you were to put a 570 and 650 side by side and ask a regular person which was the most expensive they'd pick the 570, not necessarily a good thing!. Think I will keep the turbo for a bit to see how I get on with the 570.
Also Factor in spending a minimum of 160k with options.

With limited knowledge of McLaren, the reason I initially thought the Turbo S had more Sports Car appeal was the cars heritage & volume. I perceived the McLaren as somewhat like Maserati, that being great looks & noise but perhaps too fragile & unreliable to be a daily driver. I intend to do around 15k miles per annum in the next car & I need it to do everything well, not just look pretty.I'll have a better feel for the 570S on Tuesday when I go take a closer look & take one out for a drive.
To answer someone else's point, this will be a new car purchase so not considering used & although the 650S may well be a better ownership proposition in some ways, it's new cost puts it out of budget.
I'm also not big into trinkets so I'd not be ticking many of the option boxes.

W8PMC...and your thoughts after the drive were...??
Zero as the dealer cocked up the booking so i didn't have a test drive slot, only an appointment to view.Test drive is now confirmed for next Friday. I did have a good look at the White 570S they had in the showroom & aside it looking stunning, i was blown away at how comfortable the seats were & how spot on the cabin was. Looking forward to next Friday.
Did take a Tesla S P90D (Ludicrous Mode) out & that was somewhat surprising. Far better car than i'd anticipated & i can see me going that route after this next purchase.
My head says the 991 Gen II Turbo S will be the better all rounder for my requirements, but no denying the 570S is the better looking although less practical of the 2 so me thinks it may be a tough call when i need to press the button in the Summer & order.

Be interested to hear what you think of the 570
I've only heard good things about them, but all the people I know that have driven them have worked for McL, so are biased anyway.
I agree about the interior, that's a lovely place to be, and much more comfortable than I had expected it to be. See if you can also get a drive in the new 991.2 Turbo S as that's supposed to pretty ballistic and far from the boringness that seem to be associated with Turbo Porches
I bet the rear brakes last a lot longer in that than they did in your M5 at Donny that day too
Saying that, I had squeaky brakes for some time after that day, and only just had the front pads replaced, which had got so hot, they burnt the paint off the callipers in places.. whoops

Ah that's a shame. The next gen Turbo S is a rapid machine. I guess if those rear seats are critical then it's a no brainer. But other than that will be close. Looking forward to hearing your comparison.
Rear seats are now just a nice to have after my last round of negotiation with SWMBO.graeme4130 said:

Am looking forward to taking one out. The reviews have been epic & i'm expecting it to deliver a fantastic experience.Be interested to hear what you think of the 570

The 991.2 Turbo S i'll be getting for an extended test drive but that won't be until March as that's when the dealer is registering their Demo car. A condition was i need to be sure the car can do everything i need so i'll need it for a couple of days to cover off the important requirements. Gut feel is it will come down to the Turbo S vs. 570S. One offers up perhaps a more rounded proposition whilst also being the quickest, the other looks all out Supercar, may offer up a more engaging drive & is a McLaren (never thought one would be an option).
I just sold my 911 and replaced with a 12C, wasn't a turbo or 991 and 12C isn't a 570 but I have some thoughts on the rear seats. The 911 rear seats are useful but only a couple of times a year for a 5 minute journey. Even when I had my 911 all my friends would rather hop in my wife's old Micra than endure 5 minutes in the back of the 911. Are you sure you will use the rear seats for anything other than luggage? When you need 4 seats other cars are far better. You wont miss the rear seats you will work around them when an issue crops up. The 570 looks like an exciting supercar and offers a special ownership proposition compared to a 911 (in my opinion).
