Picked up my 12C last weekend and now done 300 miles despite the terrible weather. It just needed doing - find a gap in the rain and get onto some dry (ok actually it was very damp!!) Tarmac and play with the car. Love it.

However, one thing occurred to me recently is that when originally looking and researching the 12C, it seemed the Sports Exhaust was a must have option. When I found this car,I really didn't think it needed the sports exhaust. Over the past week I've really enjoyed the sound inside and out. Playing with the ISG has been interesting and have used it when I'm in the mood to have a bit more fun and it's cool.

I've also had plenty of people commenting on how great the sound is, both inside and out. Fair enough these aren't people who own supercars, but with the ISG on it certainly makes a noise and, albeit different to the Aston, it's a good noise at speed and revs especially. When pootling around it's noisy and can be heard coming quite a way off! I guess this is one area where it differs to the Aston, which makes a more orchestral noise at low speeds.

I know the Sports Exhaust is much louder, but living in town, the standard exhaust is more than enough for me. If I get bored of it I will upgrade the exhaust.

A week in I have to say: I really like it and do try it before you write a car with the standard exhaust off.

For a turbo charged car the McLaren 12C sounds really good with or without sports exhaust although it wont ever match a N/a Ferrari V8.

For me the sound is all part of the overall experience and I have to say the sports exhaust on my 650s spider sounds has been tweaked up and above 12C and as a result does sound superb and a lot closer to the N/a V10 howl and V8 scream especially at high revs. It even pops and burbles.
My neighbours always know when I'm coming home and some have even commented that they think its sounds better than my V10 Lambo and V8 Scuderia.

Maybe what they actually meant it was ever so slighlty less noisey ????

Is yours the factory sports exhaust or an aftermarket one?

I missed that. What car do you have? A 650? Which variant? Did you say spider? :-)

Factory sports exhaust but its slightly different to a 12C variant and a little bit more vocal. Not exactly sure what changes were made but it does burble and pop even low down in the rev range. Its loud enough and sounds best with roof up and small rear window down. Roof down you get more wind noise obviously

rofl You should know there is only one car to have an Ultimate spec 650S spider in Volcano red now with newly added rear MSO Racing carbon rear diffuser. Too cool for school smokin

Monday sir. It's a train to Glasgow from Preston and then a drive back. Hopefully the weather won't be too bad.

Fingers crossed for you on the weather front and you get a good drive back home and time to play with the car. Great choice. Rain stopped play down in London today.

Been suffering pre-acquisition insomnia. It's getting worse as Monday nears. Can't wait. Really excited. How're you funding yours?

Loving it - even in the rain! Seems so well planted in the wet with excellent traction control and feels so well screwed together and the quality of the cabin is excellent. A real step on from the Aston IMO (the Aston has a ton of charm and is lovely as a GT), but this is just perfect for what it is. Far far better in the flesh than on the videos or photos.

Speed bumps are also being navigated cautiously but rides them pretty well. Don't want to speak too soon! Only one more day till you get yours! Hope you have a day or two booked off!

Looks great! You must be pleased.

I saw the silver one at Mc Manchester recently, looked very classy.

I've been watching the market for several months, do you mind saying where you got it?

I can't make my mind up on colour/spec, will probably still be looking in another six months!

Enjoy...

I am very pleased with it. smile I got it at McLaren Birmingham after months of looking like yourself.

I agree that looking for the 'right spec' is tricky as there are a lot of options and also there is a lot of buying advice out there. I found Mclife to be useful with checklists and owners feedback.

This car, whilst not having my ideal spec, had enough of the things I wanted and I got, what I think, was a good deal on it.

There is a lot of stuff about earlier cars also, but this one seems good from the history and has had all the updates. It seems really solid, of course only time will tell.

I'm off out now for a drive while it's not raining! smile

Happy hunting for yours!
