I'm seriously considering swapping my SLS roadster for a 12C spider (preferably in Volcano red) in the spring. I much prefer the front look of the Edition 50 cars fitted with the MSO front spoiler. Have any of you fitted one of these? I can see there are some aftermarket ones available in the States for about $6 -8,000. I dread to think how much it would cost to get McLaren to fit a genuine one! If I bought aftermarket would I be able to get it sprayed by my local bodyshop with whom I have a very good relationship? I've heard that McLaren are difficult when it comes to releasing paint codes...

I did find a photo of a Volcano Red 12C spider fitted with an MSO bumper on Google which looked stunning, intended to post here but now can't find it!

There was one on eBay for sale not so long ago. It might well still be there.

Thanks, this is the only non standard one on there now:

I'd be keen to get either an MSO or MSO alike one. Any thoughts about the painting? I'm going to collect one of my cars from the bodyshop later so I'll see what they think too...

Paint / paintcodes will only be released to one of the approved bodyshops.
some colours you can match but I am told Volcano red or orange is a nightmare.

'I dread to think how much it would cost to get McLaren to fit a genuine one!'

The part is £10k unpainted and not fitted. It is however stunning. I looked at a 12c and thought about putting one on.

Still looking but getting closer to one.

good lord!!!

so, there will be a category of people that will pay this price.

on a slightly related note, mclarent need to sort out the 2nd hand marketplace with support for indies and 3rd parties. isn't it the 2nd hand market that props up the residuals for people that bought brand new?

£10k doesn't surprise me (although it outrageous!) but I wonder how much extra they'd want to paint and fit it?!

Out of interest I went to my friendly bodyshop today and they can paint McLarens - in fact they had various paint codes already including Volcano Yellow. They look after a couple of racing 12C GT3s and a lot of other high end race cars and the like. Interesting seeing how many ingredients go into a Volcano colour - I think there were about 7 of them.

If anyone wants to use a bodyshop to paint their McLaren please let me know and I'll put you in touch with them. They are based near Southampton, but it may well be worth travelling to them to avoid the McLaren tax...

I'm still interested to know if anyone has tried an aftermarket front spoiler?

I was told around 50k as it involves not just a scoop but a complete new roof being fitted.

There's an internal photo on the super cars spotted thread. I must admit having initially poo poo'd them and now seeing how beautiful the interior is (sculpted carbon fibre scoops leading to the engine air intakes) I understand the want.

Thankfully mine is a spider so no chance biggrin though I do fancy the CanAm CF folding roof scratchchin

Ah not seen the interior but yes it does actually scoop air to the engine, looks fabulous but crazy money.
