Mclaren orange mp12
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I'm close to making a deal on the mclaren orange example offered for sale at GC motors.
http://www.gcmotors.co.uk/mclaren-mp4-12c-in-north...
It seems quite reasonably priced and they have offered me a decent Px on my r8GT
I know the mileage is a little high but I gather a lot of them seem to do more driving than the equivalent Ferrari etc.
I just wondered what people thought of the spec of this car, and any advice to a potential new mclaren owner would be much appreciated .
Cheers

Ok it was 5 years ago but I drove 350 miles to look at a "guaranteed immaculate" low mileage Porsche 911 turbo they had reasonably priced at the time and within 2 minutes I was driving home again.
I would recommend getting a PPI done if you are sold on the car as the one I looked at had serious accident damage that the innocent and uneducated car buyer my not have spotted.
Maybe things have changed but their cars are always "competitively" priced and usually there is a reason for something being cheap

I totally agree, that is not a high mileage considering the age.
This car is an early model, is at least four years old, and It will probably need a warranty at around 3.5k plus pre-inspection/service via a McLaren dealer. The main issue with buying outside the dealer network is the issue of warranty. This needs to be considered as part of the price of purchase as does servicing. AFAIK a major service is around 2k -OP should check what has been done and what is due in the near term.

Thanks for the info. Went and saw the car yesterday. Unfortunately wasn't the car for me and couldn't agree on a Px deal. The mclaren orange is super bright, defo would loose it in a car park
11k is high for me, I only do between 500 and 1000 miles a year in my Ferrari and about the same in my r8, a combination of bad Scottish weather and lack of free time is probably the reason for that..

What was wrong with it? If you only do those miles, surely buying an 11k miles car and selling again in 2 years with 12-14k on the clock wouldn't have much impact? Definitely seemed to be keenly priced compared to some others I've seen in the classifieds...11k is high for me, I only do between 500 and 1000 miles a year in my Ferrari and about the same in my r8, a combination of bad Scottish weather and lack of free time is probably the reason for that..

Indeed, there does seem to be a fairly large disparity in prices for what look like similar cars....some at or below £110k and then cars that look similar at £125-£130k.....TISPKJ said:
shame, I was looking forward to another new boy in the team.
seems plenty of others around currently at sensible money.
Are you after any particular spec or colour ?
Yeah was a bit disappointed. Not too fussy about colour so long as low chips and been looked after. seems plenty of others around currently at sensible money.

My search continues..

The test drive was awful, pouring rain, pitch black and roads full of debri, plus lots of stone chips. I'll keep a lookin
Are 12c's from 2011-12 potentially hard to shift?
It seems that cars of this age are now facing the "Do I don't I" dilemma around warranties.
If I buy a car out of warranty it's going to cost £3.5k plus an inspection?
If I don't warranty the car then I'm potentially vulnerable to some of the early issues coming back to haunt me.
Buy an out of warranty car with Iris 2 and I'm in for nearly £7k of costs straight away.
£3.5k seems extortionate for only 12 months warranty cover..........but then a part of me thinks that if they've made it that expensive, they think they'll be paying out a few significant claims along the way??
I'm considering a car with Iris 1 and warranty till next Summer, but if I sell up in 12 months, whatever I list it for, can I expect people wanting £7k off from the outset to warranty the car and upgrade the Iris??
Hmmm..........

The fact it's not Iris 2 should already be priced in. As for renewing the warranty, it seems pricer than the equivalent Ferrari. I can speak for the Aston one for a V12, which is in the order of £1700 pa, but the Mclaren is a far more exotic machine I believe, so that should be taken into account. Personally I wouldn't buy one without the warranty (assuming it covers the big ticket items).
I'm not sure that 2011/12 cars are difficult to shift. It does seem a slow time of year and cars may be sticking around a bit longer, but they were shifting pretty quickly in the summer. Probably represents a good time to buy if. Some have said they've picked up relative bargains at this time of year.
As for the spread of prices: no two cars are the same. The main factors are:
Carbon levels (more = ££)
Sports exhaust (yes = ££)
Year (newer = ££)
Mileage (lower = ££)
Colour plays a part as well I think.
