Leaving a Mclaren outdoors
Discussion
As it says really. Are all (modern) Mclarens garaged or are some kept outside on a long term basis?
It seems that all are garaged and I've seen a lot of comments on McLife where rain really does stop play.
Any experiences of people who don't garage their car would be interesting to hear.

I dont have any personal experience to tell you of but there's a 12C that lives on the road in Mayfair It seems that all are garaged and I've seen a lot of comments on McLife where rain really does stop play.

Hi Mike - are you the same guy that ridiculed me for not taking mine out in the rain ?
I was just inquiring as to whether you would use it on a rainy day. If it even looks moist out mines staying indoors

I have passed this 12C on many occasions over a year or two, but not in the past 6 months or so.
It's good to know that they don't melt and do start up after being left outside. Wouldn't leave mine on the street but the garage isn't optimal and is a PITA to use all the time.Mine spends some of its time outside in the rain and it hasn't gone funny on me yet. My only words of wisdom are these.
Don't open the rear window too much in a Spider when it is raining
and
Never have the door open when operating the window wiper
PS Because of the rake of the screen, if you travel at a reasonable speed even in moderate rain you don't need to use the wiper.

Also don't wash the windscreen hard at high speed with the roof down you will get a wet shoulder
If you drive in light rain with the roof down eventually the water runs down the A pillar seals and drops on to the HVAC controls
Roof up rear window down in the rain is

Another tip. On the day you pick up the car don't slap a soaking wet cleaning mitt down in front of the engine cover without realising you've left the rear window down. Thereby throwing half a gallon of watery soap suds all over your new alcantara seats!
Sounds like some bitter lessons learnt here! SELON said:

Indeed. It seemed to be running OK this morning LOTS of standing water in the Elan Valley and a bit of rains.
It's not dissolved
Though I do think all the mud may have added some unwanted weight and slowed it down
It's a fair question. Constant exposure to the elements can have an effect. A Ferrari specialist told me that ball joints on 4
430s would need replacing more frequently on card left outside - weather apparently gets into them and accelerates their deterioration. I want a Mac (or lp560) and whilst I have a garage in my house up north, my city pad does not and I would want to keep it in London for periods of time.

Although leaving any car outside would be preferable to garaging when damp especially in a unheated garage.430s would need replacing more frequently on card left outside - weather apparently gets into them and accelerates their deterioration. .
I will ensure the garage is heated and the car has Christmas slippers and a nice pipe to keep it all toasty in there
On a (slightly) more serious note, I saw one outside at St James' Square on Friday night. Titanium silver I think. Looked lovely, if a bit damp. I imagine there are plenty that spend quite a portion of their lives outside. Mine will be in and out, so I'm not worried about that. Obviously having spacious garage facilities is especially helpful when trying to keep the car clean and pretty, especially after the services of Paddy.
