Morning all,

I have lusted over (I'll be honest here...) ANY McLaren since seeing the F1 as a young lad and am finally in a place where I can seriously consider getting my first step into the family.

Over this weekend I will be down in Glasgow and plan to test drive a 12C against a 570s- I think I will prefer the 'full fat' 12C however you never know, the 570s may just be worth waiting and saving a little more for.

Anyway, all of my research over the last few months have been on the 12C and considering what (if any) impact the 570s release would have on value of the earlier cars. I think I have done my research pretty well and know what to look out for however there are still a couple of queries I am thinking about. They may be good discussion points so I figure it will be a good way to introduce myself to the McLaren forum smile

I will be trading in my 2012 Nissan GTR (running 580bhp) which has suited me down to the ground being a big car- great power and performance, road presence, but I feel I may just be getting older and want something more 'civilised' and 'special'. Have any 12C owners had experience of the GTR? And what should I expect to find with the McLaren against the GTR?

I mention the GTR suiting me as a big car.....well I am 6ft and a broad shouldered 220lbs. The GTR seats are pretty tight (designed for smaller Japanese chaps?) and you do sit a little higher up- but die to the cars size the instruments are all up above you. Will this be a problem in the 12C? As a smaller car, do you sit low and 'IN' the car, rather than 'ON' the car? Particularly with the heated seats that I hear sit higher in the McLaren? The old man runs a 997TT and it feels too small for me.

The car I am considering buying is a Volcano Red Coupe that is for sale at McLaren Glasgow:

Does anyone know anything about this car?

Anyway, cheers for now- look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Chris

I have owned a GTR and both my sons still have them now, I also enjoyed the car and its performance,

The 12c will shock you even coming from a GTR, not just how quick it is but how nice and easy it is to drive, you will certainly feel the lack of weight you have been use to. The ride in the 12c is better than the GTR even in comfort mode and this makes it such a good car, I did a Euro trip down the route de napoleon totalling around 2000 miles in a week and it was brilliant.

The only thing to watch for is make sure you put the electronic brake on in traffic as the brakes are not over assisted and the car can creep very fast with just the slightest release of the brake pedal.

I got over 30 mpg heading to the ferry at around 75 mph which was a lot better than the GTR would do cruising.

It will be interesting to see how it compairs to the 570,

Good luck.

Hello! You have a great decision to make smile The only way to tell what you want between the two will be your test drive.

I know the Volcano Red 12C a bit from seeing it around. Feel free to PM for a few more details.

The guys at McLaren Glasow will treat you well, I'm sure thumbup

I have only test driven GTR`s but I think you will find the 12c a far more special place to be. The seat is very good and quite adjustable so I do not think there will be any problems, other than because the car is low and has a big sill, you might struggle a little getting in and out. Take up yoga!
As we all know outright speed is not everything and the 570 which is not much slower may be the choice...personally I do not like the look of them.
Let us know how it compares...you might love it...and it might tempt me to try one despite the above?
One the other hand, for £4k you can upgrade the 12c to 720hp with a warranty!!
