I have a tail light (LED) out on my car and I have been told all the LED units have condensation so all need to be replaced...no problem, but not too brilliant on a car that has only cone 6500 miles, was last washed several months ago etc...
I have been advised that it is a common problem and should be covered under warranty (design/manufacturing defect)...however, the extended warranty providers (AutoTrust) are saying they are not covering them?
Has anyone got any prior experience of this...I vaguely remember there was some trouble over this issue with the original manufacturer of the LED`s?

Do your LED covers show cracks of any sort ?

Cracked LED covers, and resulting condensation is a common issue on 12Cs. They have changed supplier not so long ago and it was until recently very difficult to get them changed over due to the very high demand.
I had all of mine done at the last service about 8 months ago. Under original warranty. No problem since then.

My understanding is that if cracked they will be changed under the original warranty. I am not sure if the McLaren extended warranty cover those as it has some further limitations. However, this is clearly a design fault, or supplier fault, so a little bit of a push to your McLaren dealer should do the trick.

As mb1 says, it's covered under design fault for the extended warranty. However.... as far as I am aware with the new supplier there are still issues with condensation on the rear lights... it's not usually bad enough to actually damage the light though so I've just left mine after replacing them a couple of time over the last few years.

My car went in to the dealer in June just before the warranty was due to run out, I made it very clear that I wanted everything checking on the car before the warranty expired just in case there were any issues - none were found. How strange that when the car is there about eight weeks later it suddenly gets pointed out that the rear lights could do with being replaced - maybe they had suddenly changed in the last two or three hundred miles that the car had covered!!

After a few e-mails they decoded to replace the lights FOC but to charge me for the labour. Not really good enough in my mind but as I am two hours plus away from the dealer I couldn't check them so gave in and had them replaced.

Long and short...the extended warranty and McLaren refused to cover the lights, but as a good will gesture they have covered the cost of the transport to and from the dealer which is pretty reasonable...

One of mine was kaput due to water inside the lens, and Ascot replaced it yesterday (both sides actually, they do the pair just in case) under warranty.

Is your car under original warranty or the extended warranty? I think I need to start using Ascot, they seem to be far more customer focused than others.

I bought my 12c from CG Motors who replaced both rear LEDs under their own warranty smile

Mine was registered in March 2012 I believe, and I bought it 5 months ago from Ascot with the extended warranty, and chey changed the rear lights without any argument at all. I've also had my temp readouts in the doors replaced, and the closing of the doors adjusted to remove some wind whistle (they're a bit hard to close now, but that's the trade-off). My IRIS 1 went pop too a month ago - they had to run it by the warranty company, but replaced it with IRIS 2 just fine. Makes me feel happier about splashing £3.5k on another year's-worth next July!

Thanks, will definitely call them and get mine booked in there for a couple of small issues.
