12c Spider values
Discussion
I have been looking at some 12c Spiders (as well as the 570s/540c). There are a small number available at the moment - McLaren Birmingham has a couple of 8-10k miles models at 139k, Glasgow a 25k miler at 135k - how will these values change/depreciate going forward? Where is the base? Will the drop be less than a new sports series model from new, given that these cars have already depreciated a fair bit, or is there still a bit to go?
Thats the questions we are all wanting the answers to.

seriously, no one knows, personnaly I think and hope that 12C prices are at the low and can only hold or go up a touch.
Rightly or wrongly, 25k is perceived as high miles on one of these cars.

Having sold a Countach 5000QV back in 2000 for well under £100k I'm really struggling to get my head round selling my DBS in case it goes the same way as the QV. Not saying it definitely will but being a manual and the 007 bks it just might.
I really can't justify owning both as there are other things I want to do.
Decisions, decisions

How long before 25k is viewed as normal? People seem to be using these cars more than their Ferrari counterparts.Let us know when you get your crystal ball working

I never used a supercar as much as my McLaren 650S. Its just such an all round accomplished car hence why people use them more.Whilst Ferrari's are deemed high mileage if more than 2,000 miles pa with McLaren I don't think 6,000 or 8,000 a year is out the way or an issue on resale.
Great that the cars can be used as designed

However currently I would say 25k is near the top of those advertised, most or an awful lot are still sub 10k miles so bear this in mind when comparing.
Yet the odd thing is that ferraris are MUCH cheaper to run - recent models get service packs and low price servicing and for everything you have a plethora of indies that will do all the advisories for 30% under ferrari prices. I'm tempted by a Mac, but I'm stingy (or maybe I don't like being bent over a barrel) but it seems with macs your only option for servicing and advisories in mckaren themselves (at a very high cost). So... Use them daily for sure but expect to pay through the nose for it(?)

That's the problem with such a young manufacturer, there is one indie agent I know of in the UK.The only up side is they don't seem to need a lot of remedial work.

I've spoken to some well known Ferrari indies that have wanted to peform work on macs but maclaren refused to cooperate (wouldn't supply the parts). they do need lots of things doing though, just have a look at the mclaren life forum and you'll see people selling their cars having been bitten hard at service time. Also warranties are very expensive. I still want one, don't get me wrong , I just think if something bad happened then I'd me remortgaging my house(!) and that's enough for me to spend a little more and get a 458 or something. Well, the Mclaren warranty is no more expensive than the 458's (surprise surprise) equivalent power or whatever warranty but admittedly it's 3 year manufacturer vs 4 for the Ferrari here in the UK. Servicing I grant you is not provided for 7 years but consumables aside (and Ferrari are most assuredly not covering those) your basic service is not crazily costly and Mclaren have slackened off on being overly zealous about replacement of some items as cars have actually accumulated mileage and wear can be more accurately measured. A common viewpoint that the 12C is a bit of a bargain getting more airplay:http://grrc.gd/63650

Thanks for the response. Do you know if they're supplying parts to non franchised workshops yet (indies)? That'd make a hell of a different to ownership convenience and cost.

Wouldn't know that I am afraid. Thorney motorsport I believe have set themselves up as a mclaren indy though so if they can get parts.....That'd make a hell of a different to ownership convenience and cost.

Hmmm. That's really interesting. I was at McLaren London the other week looking at a black 12c. The sales guy reaffirmed the "mclarens don't leave the franchise" policy by telling me that if you scratch your McLaren paintwork then McLaren won't even supply the paint code - you have to get it painted by McLaren. I'm going to buy an LP560 instead I think. I just see the second hand McLaren market as being needlessly expensive.

McLaren Ascot told me exactly the same regarding the paint. Would still like one though - was out in my 360 yesterday and saw a red 12 plate McLaren twice - once at some traffic lights and by chance I ended up behind it about 20 mins later. Stunning car.12c. I sold my late 13 black spider to Mac Manchester a week or so ago. Car has 11k miles, decent options (inc sports exhaust) and has no marks, Front end shielded plus all leading edges and the rear spoiler. Car drives perfectly and has had no issues. It has orange calipers and stitching. If anyone's interested, I can recommend the car.
As for the 12C spider it is a great car and I think a bargain. My reason for sale is basically that I bought a Speciale and preferred that but the 12C does some things that Speciale cannot so still makes a brilliant choice in my book.
