As we move into winter I'm see some softening of prices and incentives like 2yrs service been offered on 12cs. When is the low point in the market - January or this side of Xmas?
What's normally the allowance they build into their prices for trade ins? I don't have a trade in so interested in knowing what to expect.

I followed the market all last winter and prices did not seem to change much if at all over the winter period, they have remained fairly stable for the last year or so now.
It will depend very much on if the car is SOR or owned by the dealership as to what deal can be done.
2 years service is if the dealers are to be beleived (which I see no reason not too) only £3k, 1500 a year, I would check what that "Free" includes as I would imagine only labour and service parts, it wouldnt for example cover clutch and discs etc etc.
A McLaren warranty is £3k a year and comes with all approved cars.
The ammount you can get off any car these days (not just McL)seems minimal for some reason ...... power of the internet I think.

I bought mine last year (new years eve!) & sold just after summer... Lost very little :-)

The prices advertised become far more negotiable this side of the new year IMO.

Come January the dealer will start thinking that they may as well hold out as they've 'ridden the storm' so to speak...

I agree end of October, November and pre xmas is optimum time to buy as the dealers try to close down year end accounts.
Come new year prices will actually go up IMHO

Interesting.

I have my 12c with a dealer at the moment.

I've just taken delivery of a GT4 which is primarily for track use and thought that this would also do the job on the road.

And I thought the 12c was too fast for it's own good.

But I'm getting close to the point where I may choose to keep both. I won't track the 12c --- but it has got to be the most accomplished usable proper Supercar --- and I can't see really nice cars ever being worth less than £110k.

When the 650s successor may be closer to £250k with spec ??

McLaren are motoring smile

That might be the beginning of a trend - 12C Coupes are now just too cheap really - £110k is bonkers for a 2011/2012 car that only 3-4 years ago listed at £200k with options. I dont think it will be too long before the general public get wind of this, but i guess £110k is still an awful lot of money for most people..

I offered 5k below asking on a coupe and was turned down flat. The deal I did in the end included fitted luggage, cover, warranty, service, new rear tyres. And a tank of petrol....and since then a trackday at Silverstone, good service from the dealer / service centre etc.

Interesting topic.

Yes, the darker evenings and the 570S on the horizon have impacted the 12C at this time.

However (IMVHO), it will be short lived -

1. sooner or later, buyers will stop comparing the price of a basic 540S to a well-specced 12C
2. the 540/570 will be relatively common-place in 12-24 months and no where near as exclusive as a 12C/650 (I hear you Rambo-Lambo)
3. in 12 months time McLaren will release the 580S, we all know it and it will have P1 headlamps and active-aero (OK, I'm guessing at that bit) and the thousands of 540/570 will become worthless overnight....
4. Rambo-Lambo is right in saying once McLaren becomes a volume producer the 12C and 650 will sort after.
5. give McLaren credit, they've done a solid job with the brand so far and it will only get stronger......

Enjoy the dip, get the best car you can at this time, that is all.

sadly I think the general trend for all supercars is going to be more depreciation as a simple result of more build numbers and more credit in the market.
its a bit like the Iphone... last years model has to be worth less as all the trend spotters move to the latest and greatest. The enthusiasts rung below needs a discount as the true running costs of the car come into play...
Don't forget Ferrari and Lambo products also have a factor on the pricing... So I think a 12c will always be priced 10%+ below a Fez or Lambo
i.e. A Gallardo is worth more than a 360 because it was slightly later released to the market etc etc, ie, more power and faster. Then up a level lp560 and F430 up again to an uneven playing field, 599gtb and Murcielago... so the market will always be split with those that want older school and those that want last years Iphone and those that can afford this years iphone. 12c is too new to be old school but now old hat yet it was only 2011 tech...

I think personally McLaren changed the 12c too early... they should have let it run 4 years but in order to try and catch customers they had to change early. The truth is in 5 years time the technology in the 12c wont look that different to a 650s and the huge gap in pricing which exists at the moment will diminish.

Poppycock. This is actually where the 540C shines, as there will always be strong used-car demand for the cheapest model in the brand. The iterative benefit of a 570/580/650 etc lose their relevance as the iterative improvement in performance is continually replaced by the next big/faster thing. The 540C's key benefit is its price, and it still gets you the looks, the brand and 95% of the performance. I think it'll be a winner in the same way that the "cheap" California did for Ferrari. It drew in customers that were otherwise buying R8/911/Astons etc.

I dont see prices much different to this time last year to be honest with the odd exception regards some higher mileage cars now on the market.
last winter one or two cars sold at the £115 level.
When I bought mine (June) I got vertually nothing off the asking price, cant remember exacly but maybe £2k max.
I am hoping that 12c will if anything go up a touch as the demand for "the real thing" smile kicks in.
very tempted by a new car but hate the thought of potentialy losing best part of £50k
