Hi all,

My business has just turned in a stellar year, and it looks like we may be in for a dividend... been considering a 12C. Would love to hear about ownership experiences, also what it's like to spend that much money on a car. Previous record is £35k on a 987 Spyder... this will be 3 times that.

Also any thoughts on total cost of ownership, and any other comments, positive and negative.

One thing I've noticed is that there don't seem to be many - sorry, ANY private cars available. Don't really fancy paying the dealer spread if I decide to move it on after a year or 2!

Cheers,

bb

Scroll down through this section for other 12C threads with answers to similar queries from others - quite regular as basically they seem to be such a bargain currently

As above plenty of recent threads to read through as a lot of new owners here now.
Briefly:
2011 models were the first release and as you have probably seen initially some pretty unhappy customers to say the least and rightly or wrongly it seems to have stuck that 2011 cars are best avoided, of course in reality all cars have now been fully sorted by the dealerships and have all been updated with the various software improvements, most problems were either Iris or door lock related issues.
Iris 1 and 2, lots of problems from owners with Iris 1, most have been swapped over to Iris 2 which is a different unit but will cost £3k to upgrade if its not done already, issue seemed to be that unit couldnt do sat nav, radio, and phone all at once without overloading itself.
service, I am told is £1500 a year.
McLaren warranty is £3.5k a year so in reality your talking £5k minimum service.
Private sales are few and far between for the above reason, you really need peace of mind with a warranty on these cars, and most people wouldnt entertain buying something of this value privately.
Your options are basically 2, buy from McLaren dealer with factory warranty or buy from Alastair Bolls (well respected)with warranty wise warranty.

All of the above aside they are fantastic cars, like all supercars buy the lowest mileage and owner car that fits your budget, they do like a drink compared to some other supercars but are a great drivers car that you could use everyday if you wanted too.
Mine is a 2012 car with Iris 1 which I have had no issues with however its a fun car so only used the sat nav once, phone and ipod work fine.
Undecided what to do when warranty expires next summer, will service when still in warranty and then decide, but if I ever sell it will more than likely be through McLaren anyway.

Basically a fantastic car that is finally getting the following it deserved.

As above, but I have mine upgraded to Iris 2 when I purchased the car from Alistair Bols...it was part of the deal.

Can any McLaren/12C owners give their opinions on this car, based on the description. Priced at £130k (18k miles), good value, or likely to see a significant drop still? Didn't they have a horse power boost from 620bhp to 666bhp?

Hi, dont know the car or the dealer but it is priced at that level due to the mileage, it's a touch expensive.

IMO you would be better off negotiating a deal on this one or similar.

as per the post above bear in mind the Mclaren warranty is £3.5k

edited to add 616bhp is the power upgrade.

Unless you go to the specialist tuning company in Southampton (can`t remember their name right now) where you can get any of the cars upgraded to 720hp, with their warranty!!

Looks at least 15k over priced to me for a car with £18k miles.

If it was earlier in the year(spring summer),its chancing it...I reckon now an MCL dealer would be- £5k atleast, less as a starter....certain cars have hung around, for whatever reason....To be honest, find what you like, go with your instinct and get a bone fide warranty; buy it, enjoy it!
