Y1 MSO = Sarigan Quartz 650S Spider?
Discussion
Looking around at 650S spiders I noticed there is a Sarigan Quartz one at Ascot.
Rare colour! Curiosity aroused!
Google being my friend I suspect it is the "press car" Y1 MSO used to launch the "Special Edition"
A few questions immediately come to mind;
Am I right?
If so is it really limited or is it like Aston a parts bin mash up?
If it is limited does it add any value?
Should I run away quickly?
All that said I do quite like it!

Looks sweet to me. Nice colour combo and the MSO bits cost a packet new.
Its not a limited edition like a 675LT but it is rare and special spec and if I was in the market I would also be interested in it at that price.
I'm sure McLaren would of prepped it to a high retail condition for resale so if it tickles your fancy I wouldn't hang around as I'm sure it will sell quickly if not already done so if its been offered around to leads whilst the ad was being prepared

Did they ever build the 50 ? Not seen another one and thought this was the showcase car to show off MSO bits.https://media.mclarenautomotive.com/release/261/
If it is indeed limited to 50 then I would suggest it is worth a little bit more than a regular production car with some MSO bits on it. I like the spec and colour and personally would only add carbon side air intakes to make it perfect
I believe production should still be under way.
I know of about 5 or 6 cars so far but they are relatively hard to identify as people can change the colour and spec. For example one of the MSO Spiders was delivered in Cerulean Blue:

There are a few colour variations including the Concept car above and the colour on the Spider in the link.

MSO will also be showcasing a one-off version of the MSO 650S Spider, which has been designed in collaboration with McLaren Newport Beach and McLaren Automotive Design Director Frank Stephenson. This unique example of the MSO 650S Spider is based on the already exclusive MSO 650S, which made its debut last month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and is one of just 50 examples with unique styling upgrades, including extensive satin-finished carbon fibre, giving a subtle and purposeful look.
This is a 'normal' one here:http://www.mclarenlife.com/forums/mclaren-650s/237...

According to the article posted it was 50 worldwide in about 4 different colours the Quartz one being one of them with various carbon and gloss black bits. Don't know if it can be considered a real limited edition in the Le Mans vein but then again other car manufacturers did similar with things like Peugeot 205 'Tahiti' etc. it's just some added MSO bits which was essentially another showcase for what MSO could do
Judging by the number of McLaren threads on this supercar forum these days I would suggest "Global Domination" has commenced.
Surely a sign that brand awareness is significantly growing with all the new product.
In comparison given the volumes and heritage Ferrari seems to have gone very quiet ????? Even CS and Scudecar threads are dead probably as a result of most the cars now sitting in wealthy car collections
I'm sure 488 orders are plentiful and 2 years production all sold etc.... but just seems to be very little discussion on the topic.
Maybe all the enthusiasts and pistonheads are turning to McLaren nowadays ? And where the collectors will be going next ??

They announced it as limited to 50 units (coupe and spiders) which makes it a limited edition by very definition. It is not, perhaps, as recognisable but if limited in the specification they give, then limited edition it is. The same goes for all manufacturers of course. Contrasted with special edition. GRB, need you go so over the top?

What do John Lewis say " Not ever, knowingly, undersold "
. The McLaren brand is definitely getting a head of steam up IMHO
I have no allegiance to any brand and as a multiple supercar owner my history suggests I have an Italian bias if anything.
I can only say it as I see it in my unbiased opinion and its not meant to antagonise anyone
Hey, I may even order a 488 spider in the future but it does seem to be very subdued in comparison to the traffic noise with McLaren currently
I know the forum is only a minute but hardcore car following of enthusiasts but it is talking, at least to me, that McLaren is really now on the supercar radar and homing in on the targets
