Timed Crank

Ok - what is a "timed crank"? From the dash you can turn it on or off, but I've no idea what it does (on a 12C) - any ideas?

Timed Crank

With timed crank OFF, press and hold the STOP/START button until the engine starts.

With timed crank ON, a single press of the STOP/START button will cause the engine to crank until it starts.
