So seems like a slightly softer more useable car, possibly with cr@p wheel design, so will have to tick the superleightweight wheel option.
As they all use the same engine, what's to stop me buying one of these and having the 12c engine map ?

thought about this long and hard as a lot of manufacturers now have one engine with multiple c02 and bhp outputs....if the first engine out is the best, cannot see any R&D or manufacturing savings from then designing an engine with inferior parts to 'tone it down'.... far easier just to map it down....
if the more powerful engine has come later, fair enough.... better parts likely to have been used....
and any turbo engine can be tuned.....
You can manufacture the same parts from different alloys. Cheaper but will not sustain the same strains.
Also, cooling is different on all McLaren cars. The 650S has enlarged side vents that allows it to have the 25bhp+ compared to 12C. 675 has again enlarged side vents compared to 650.
I am sure the cooling requirements of the 540/570 are engineered to cope with the amount of bhp and heat dissipation associated.
I am sure you can get a few bhp back with remap (at the expense of smoothness or some other compromise) but you might not be able to get from 570 from 616 just on remap. It would be too easy (and I would ask for 675 in my 12C)

Much less blatantly, wearing different badges, with different design priorities, built in different factories in different countries and appealing to different buyers by significant brand differentiation. Yes they share platforms, engines and market segments but not within a brand and not to the same extent.Russell996 said:

Id be pretty pissed off if I was a 650 owner tbh. Its blatantly the same car with a few of the gizmos picked off. Same 3.8 twin turbo, same carbon tub - half the price. On paper:

I understand what they are trying to do, but using the same engine and same tub etc in all models is not a good way of creating space between the models.
Aside from looking better and being a newer model, Im quite sure it will actually be better than the 650 in quite a few areas also being a brand new model..
540 for me please, in poverty spec! 0-124 in a bit over 10 seconds, possibly under 9 with a remap? Yeah that`ll do - ill keep the 100 grand pocket change.

It is not rocket science but people still don't get it......
A sapphire glass watch cost a lot more than a standard glass watch but they look the same to uneducated customer....
If one cannot see or don't understand the difference, then yes they should buy the cheaper, lesser model, but please stop criticising the reasons why others buy the more expensive models.
Those rightly understand the difference and can afford to pay for the improvements.

I think its stunning in every angle. Might have to push the boat out for this. Whats the story in terms of when pricing (of options etc) will come out? I take it that McLaren don't put the full pricing on their website 'configure' engine?

650S is looking like a massive Shirt-Loser to me, the 570 and 540C design is a huge improvement - 650S is a mess. can see it be perhaps 20 grand over a similar 570C and 30 grand over a 540C in a coupla years...
